Free agency could help turn Rams into Patriots?
RB Darren Sproles -- Bolts to Rams
Sproles can make an impact on a team as a third-down back and the Rams would be his ideal landing spot. With new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in charge, the Rams must limit Steven Jackson's workload and find a nickel back who can help them attack the middle of the field.
Sproles would be to the Rams what Danny Woodhead has been to the Patriots. He would allow Sam Bradford to have an effective check-down option, is a great screen runner, and his talents would force teams to defend the middle of the field, thus taking pressure off the outside receivers. Think of St. Louis being like the 2010 New England offense. With new Rams tight end Lance Kendricks being like Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, Danny Amendola being similar and as effective as Wes Welker, and Sproles being Woodhead, the Rams would be explosive. One third-down back, and the Rams are on their way to being a top-five scoring offense.
Very interesting I might add. Though it does look like were modelling our offense after theirs. I love the last line.

Re: Free agency could help turn Rams into Patriots?
We don't need to have an exact replica of the Patriots Offense. I'd like the system to utilize physical RBs to tire out opposing defenses while our passing game is used to put score on the board. Still, I like Sproles in the backfield but his blocking skills are most likely below average. I prefer Darby as our 3rd down back because he's capable of executing our 3rd down passing situation as well as our red zone rushing TDs. (see Redskins, Shesquawks, and Broncos game)

Michael Lombardi suggest....
Michael Lombardi of NFL.com suggests Darren Sproles as a possible free-agent target for the Rams as the team searches for a backup running back. Lombardi: "Sproles would be to the Rams what Danny Woodhead has been to the Patriots. He would allow Sam Bradford to have an effective check-down option, is a great screen runner, and his talents would force teams to defend the middle of the field, thus taking pressure off the outside receivers. Think of St. Louis being like the 2010 New England offense. One third-down back, and the Rams are on their way to being a top-five scoring offense."
What do you guys think?

This would be perfect for our offense. Id love this move nearly as much as getting a top notch guard?

It's always tempting to hope for a proven, albeit limited, commodity like Sproles but I'd rather hope Devaney finds the next Danny Whitehead or LeGarrette Blount & uses the big $$ for foundation pieces like a young vet OG.

Re: Free agency could help turn Rams into Patriots?
overkill (& likely overpay). SJ can still do it. Get quality maulers on the line instead.

Re: Free agency could help turn Rams into Patriots?
in terms of yards per game how does a team go from 26th to 5th with the addition of a back-up runningback? Also given the change of schemes and the lockout does he think Bradford and the rest of the offense will be sharp week 1?
Also why would the Rams be trying to build the patriots 2010 roster when McD never coached the 2010 pats offense. We are building the 2011 Rams offense no the 2010 pats offense.
