Giants sign Brown door closing a little more for Butler
Giants sign Brown to fill possible hole at safety
The Giants have signed a fourth defensive addition during the free-agency period, agreeing to a one-year contract with former Texans starting safety C.C. Brown yesterday. The move fills a vacancy on the roster where only two safeties remained from the 2008 team. James Butler, a starter for the Giants last year, is a free agent.
Brown, 26, missed most of last season with a fractured forearm but was a starter until that point. He has 275 tackles (202 solo), three interceptions, 16 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one sack in 50 career games. He broke his arm in Week 3 against the Jaguars last year.
"Brown is a physical player who will come down to the line of scrimmage," Tom Coughlin said. "He has made the calls in the secondary and can get people lined up. With the situation that we have with James Butler, there is a need to go ahead and create the competitiveness that is necessary for everyone to reach their full potential. I think adding C.C. Brown is bringing us closer to that."
The move means the Giants likely have closed the door on Butler. The free agent is said to be close to a deal with the Rams but could still return to the Giants.Last edited by RamsSB99; -03-05-2009 at 12:34 AM.

Re: Giants sign Brown door closing for a little more for Butler
I know it's great to get all d-backfield help signed, but if the Rams don't get some pass rush I don't care if their all pro bowl Corners & Safties they will get beat.
James Butler will help but not that much , Alot better than Chavous.
More D-Line Help.
Better D-Line will make the LB's, S, SS & Corners look better.

At De we have Chris Long, Leonard Little, James Hall and Victor Adeyanju
I think we will take a DE in the draft, Spags loves a rotation at DE and we need another pass rusher

One name that will really help this D line.....Brian Orakpo. He will be the defensive rookie of the year next year.

Not gonna derail this thread but the work ethic of Brian Orakpo is not matched by ANYONE.
Back to Butler. It seems encouraging that he is saying he is close to signing with the Rams.

With Giants signing Brown. I Hope it Helps get Butler to sign with the Rams. I don't want Rams to over pay for Butler just because he was with Spags in NY.
The Rams will hopefully look at all the freeagents not just Butler.
