As I said before, Zach, there will always be situational formations that will include multiple UTs or multiple NTs. Moving DEs into UT assignment (think Spags use of Tuck) or jumbo short yardage formations with an extra Tackle. It's not versatility that we are talking about. It's their base assignment that's being discussed. Ryan is a NT. That is his base assignment that fits his skill set best. Suh is a UT (as is Dorsey since it's germane to the conversation). That fits his skill set best.

I get what you're saying.

If Dorsey and Suh both play the same position "UT", and cannot play the other DT spot then there would be no reason to grab Dorsey. I'd like to believe that Suh and/or Dorsey could play both spots, but if not, I'd much rather get Suh.

Zach? I'm Mike. I'm not talking about situational formations either. He was an UT, played UT for a significant portion of an entire season. Have some DVD's of any games from 2007? Throw em in. He's played at UT since then too.

if you want to label him a NT, that's cool. I think he's plenty versatile enough to just call him a NT if you want. I think he's plenty versatile enough that you could label him purely an UT if you wanted too. I just don't think he's much more than a depth guy who can give you some quality snaps during a game and ironically, is the Rams best DT currently. But if you wanted, you could put him at either position on the depth chart to make room for someone new. Whether you drafted/signed an UT or another NT to go with Gibson.

As for Spags system. That versatility is great. Yes, systematically, they will be asked to play both responsibilities.
