Greatest Draft of All Time?
We all have different opinions of the draft, and the best way to approach it. Some feel the draft should be handled with the most studious of measures (Nick). Others feel you'll do just as good pulling names out of a hat (tx). But either way, every year there are some teams to get two fists of gold from the talent pool, and some that walk out with a plug nickel.
So, my question to you is......
What team put together the greatest draft in history?
My opinion.......the nod would have to go to the 1974 Steelers.
1 21 Lynn Swann WR USC
2 46 Jack Lambert LB Kent State
4 82 John Stallworth WR Alabama A&M
4 100 Jimmy Allen DB UCLA
5 125 Mike Webster C Wisconsin
Four HOF'ers with the first 5 picks........DANG!!! (And Jimmy Allen had a decent career, though more with the Lions than the Steelers).
Re: Greatest Draft of All Time?
I was tempted to make an argument for one of the Cards' drafts, like the one where they chose Clyde Duncan in the first round or the one where John Lee was chosen in the second. But even I can't pull off that level of sarcasm. It also just hurts too bad.
Re: Greatest Draft of All Time?
I also think its the 74 steelers. no other team can claim that kind of draft.
Re: Greatest Draft of All Time?
It doesn't touch the Steelers draft that you mention but when Tampa selected Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks in 1995, it sure turned round the fortunes of that franchise.
