Is he really too expensive .. Jason Brown

After reading JT's chat, along with what he's been intimating all along regarding Holt and Pace, it seems a strong possibility they'll both be gone. Why is it taking so long? Surely the Rams will try to eke out any trade value they can get for either player, but ultimately they have to make a decision, and soon, with the advent of FA right around the corner. If Pace goes (and there appears a good chance he will), we can forget about Curry, as Munroe or Smith will likely be our pick. Holt is as good as gone already IMO. If both guys go, that will clear 14 mil in cap space. If we wish to enter the J. Brown sweepstakes, that should be enough to ante up and play. In a way, this scenario would be swapping Pace for Brown. The fly in the ointment is that we don't know who Detroit will take for sure. If the Lions were to select Munroe, do the Rams feel that J. Smith is as NFL ready as Eugene? Additionally, if we dump or trade both Pace and Holt, it may give us more wiggle room in negotiations with Bartell (if the current management really thinks he is worth a huge contract) .. If the Rams really are serious about establishing a strong running game, acquiring Jason Brown would seem a great addition to an area of need. Thoughts ??

The problem is Brown wants to be paid like a guard, rather than a center. He's probably looking for something around or exceeding Alan Faneca money ($40M over 5 years, $21M guaranteed). But teams will probably want him closer to Jeff Faine, who became the highest paid center last spring by signing with Tampa ($37.5M over 6 years, $15M guaranteed). That's a lot of money for a team like the Rams, who just spent $36M ($13M guaranteed) on Jacob Bell last year, and could be spending $50M this April by drafting an OT with their first round pick.

Well .. let's hope in the end he realizes he's still a center ... He's going to end up somewhere, so the possibility exists ..

The problem is, though that a lot of teams are switching to 3-4 defenses, so opposing teams in divisions filled with these defenses (AFC East) feel like they NEED a player like this, and will ultimately overpay for him. I don't think we go after him. And it looks like Birk is going back to the Vikings, so there's really just Jeff Saturday left, and I see him resigning with his former team, also.
