Re: Here is a crazy thought
I think you hit the nail on the head - spending the second overall pick on a defensive end prospect that you're going to move to 4-3 SAM linebacker is, in fact, a pretty crazy thought.

Re: Here is a crazy thought
What's this I hear on CL playing 3-4?!?...
The Dolphins are presently set up to play a 3-4 even though coach Tony Sparano won't commit to it until practices start.
Gholston and Chris Long are viewed as the two college defensive ends that would have the smoothest transition to outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. The Dolphins have had private meetings with each. -- Omar Kelly / So. Florida Sun-Sentinel (From the 'Dolphins Negotiating With Gholston Too' thread)
What! I had mentioned the SAM LB thought as 'legit' possibilites but ... on 2nd thought, I don't believe Chris Long would survive or even function there for too long. Gholston, yes. Not CL. Different physique.
As Dorsey is the traditional DT, Long is the traditional DE on a 4-3 line. I also don't see Coach Haslett starting anything fancy or 'innovative' with a CL prospectus.Last edited by RealRam; -04-11-2008 at 03:52 PM. Reason: Fumble over keyboard
