How about Bruce Irvin instead of Zach Brown in rd 2 for OLB?
Nick probably has more info on this guy; and with many people saying Brown plays a little too soft-- does anyone think this WV alum would be a good fit at OLB?
He moves like a DB with the weight of an ILB (245LBs). Kind of reminds me of Clay Matthews.Last edited by punahou; -03-16-2012 at 09:22 PM.

Not if we plan on running a 4-3. Irvin was a great pass rusher here at West Virginia, and I think his future in the NFL is with his hand off the ground, but asking him to drop back in coverage will be pretty new to him and I think his best fit is as a rush outside linebacker in a 3-4, where he's able to stand up and use that pass rush ability.

hmm why couldnt he be a 4-3 olb? As it stands now the only LB of note we have is Laurenitis, and he would be MLB. At 6-3 and 245lbs- you dont think he'd be athletic enough to play on one of the edges?

If you're looking for a Day Two alternative to Zach Brown, I like...
- Utah State's Bobby Wagner
- Nebraska's Lavonte David
- Miami's Sean Spence
- Florida State's Nigel Bradham
Maybe not great value at the top of the second round, but they could all come off the board between Rounds 2-3. If any of them are there near the top of Round Four, I think you'd really have to give them some consideration.

See above. He has virtually no experience in coverage, unless you plan on blitzing him every passing down, then you're not getting the most out of his pass-rush skills. This guy was made for rushing the passer.
It's kind of a shame that he didn't have one more year of eligibility, really. WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen is moving away from the 3-3-5 defense the Mountaineers have used for years now and is installing a 3-4 scheme this year.
Irvin likely would have gone from a down lineman in a three man front (he was washed out at times this season) to a rush linebacker off the edge, which I think NFL teams would have loved to see.

I would rather draft DT Kendall Reyes and OT/G Kelechi Osemele in round two. Thats if we get WR Blackmon in round one.
SPEED KILLS! (and i don't mean drugs)
Third round another WR Tommy streeter, A.J.Jenkins or Marvin Jones.
