How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
I'm sure we all know our have a general idea about the playmaking ability of Golden Tate. I know he was was former runningback who got converted to receiver due to his hands. I was wondering how big a role could a Golden Tate fill in this offense by not only being a great playmaker at receiver but also play runningback at occasion.
We're looking for another back to spell SJ and we're also looking for a playmaker at receiver.
Although I think we're relatively decent at receiver despite what some say, I don't doubt the impact a bonefied Fitzgerald could have on this team. Tate wouldn't probably fill the role of a Fitz but he would be pretty darn useful and if he could play runningback he could fill two needs.
Interested to hear what you guys think.
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
Golden Tate = Donny Avery IMO.
If we draft a WR in this draft I hope hes over 6' tall, and I think a TE at #2 is more of a need imo, because out of the 6+ WRs we already have SURELY one of them can become a decent target for Bradford. . . hopefully
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
I fell the same way. I think we have a need for TE more than WR.
Although I love Golden Tate, and his freakish abilities, I feel that there are bigger needs.
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
yes, agreed with the 2 above posts, if I was Devaney/Spags, I'm going TE in rd. 2

tate is much different than Avery.
He is a hybrid player like Harvin and reggie bush.
He would be great for us because we could use him in motion and short passing plays that he could get some YAC.
Avery is more like a Santana Moss ...
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
Drafting Tate with the intention of playing him at receiver but also giving him a carry or two on an end around or reverse is fine. Anything more than that, I don't think is particularly wise. If we need a back up running back to spell SJ, then let's find one. Drafting Tate and trying to fit him into that role while he also plays receiver just doesn't make much sense to me.
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
Receiver and backup RB, How does play 2 positions at once. I agree with Nick use him on a reverse and an end around once in a while.
Although he was NDs wild cat QB, I don't think he ever passed it, but he was a good runner out of the wildcat.
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
I just dont think we need ANOTHER small fast WR who can be put in motion and run short passing plays, I believe we are all stocked up in that department.

Agreed, Need a BIG target with a BIG bullseye on his massive helmet.
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
Anybody who says Tate = Avery hasn't watched the man. Tate can go deep and does well at that, but from what I've seen he is especially good at taking a dink slant pass or hook and turning it into something big. That guy can run and he has that uncanny ability to see and sense the flow of traffic. He is the perfect west coast offensive weapon. Reminds me of when Marshall Faulk was catching those short passes back in the day.
Its the versatility that makes Tate dangerous. Defenses already have a hard time stopping the SJAX. Add that to Avery going deep, the slippery pair of Gibson and Robinson, and Tate's versatility, it becomes a defensive nightmare.
Re: How Versatile Could a Golden Tate Be?
So THATS why he wore no. 23. I always thought that was an odd choice for a WR.
(learns something everyday)

Love Tate -- I maybe in the minority but I feel the Rams have plenty of young talent at WR and the focus should be more on DE/TE/OLB.
Go Rams
