The dispute lies in whether the Rams think they can find a suitable LG in the later rounds which history has proven time and time again, they can. And whether a playmaker-starved team like the Rams can afford to pass on Austin/Patterson for an OG.

I clearly say no, I'd much rather have the best playmaker over the best guard for this team because I know Long and Warford among others are also good guards that will be available later.
I don't think the Rams are looking to add a suitable guard. Last year the Rams did not settle for a suitable defensive tackle. They drafted what they believed was the best player on the board at 14. If they where to subscribe to your way of building the roster, they could have found a suitable DT later in the draft right? They pasted on three receivers taken in the first round and RB Doug Martin to take a DT. If you think we are a play-maker-starved team this year then we had to be on life support last year at this time.

Only time will tell what Les & Fisher's philosophy is, in regards to building the Rams. I'm of the mind set you build inside out (if the best players are there to be had). It maybe old school, but I still think it's the way to go.

In the end you maybe right and the Rams pass on Warmack for Austin. Only time will tell. I hope like hell they are both on the board when we pick and we have options.

One last note: I will be watching how the Phins offense plays this year. They are kind of building a team more to your philosophy, take lessors talent up front and spend the cash on the play-makers.

Firstly, If the Rams were to subscribe to my way of building the roster, they'd end up with GSOT revisited as has been beaten over the head over and over again in this thread. Were you not paying attention?

Secondly, nothing wrong with building from inside out, except when a better, quicker and proven way is presented to you.

Thirdly, the Rams couldn't make a better choice than Austin or Patterson with the 16th pick, unless SF comes with a boatload of picks.

And lastly, don't know if they are or not. Maybe they're just taking playmakers in free agency and plan to build their line through the draft. After all, there are plenty of good o-linemen to be had. Even in the later rounds.

I know this thread is about the 1st round, but calm down, there are 7 rounds and we have 8picks. We should be confident we can get players in round 2 -7 that can be playmakers, starters, and even HOFers.... Most come from those rounds anyway.

And even though i would want austin, i believe if you have warmack and TA available, you take warmack. He should be the higher rated player, imo.

I chose Cooper at 16 for this post. He is just more athletic then Warmack.

First off, if all those players are there at sixteen trade down for some more picks. Still get a chance at some of those players at 22.
