    If we draft Sammy Watkins

    — Sources close to the St. Louis Rams tell me they've sent scouts to Clemson to interview coaches about wide receiver Sammy Watkins. With the No. 2 overall pick and no clear-cut go-to wide receiver, the Rams should be very interested in Watkins.
No shock here the Rams will be doing a lot of interviews now until the draft. So here is my question IF the Rams take Sammy Watkins with our first pick, weather it's at 2 or they move back a few spots and take him. Who do we draft next? How do we address the O line? Who would be the BPA on the board at 13?

Re: If we draft Sammy Watkins

I would bet the farm that they do NOT take Watkins, based on what I hear from Snead and Fisher , and the offense I see them going to.

That wide open plan is dead, in case some fans didn't get that notice from Fisher.

He's going all in to build a defense to equal the other NFC West teams.

With a lack of cap rom to get a top free agent DB this year, I think he'll add a couple tough, grizzled veterans at a good cheap rate, and then add more talent there on draft day at OLB,DT and DB.

I would not be at all surprised by a DT being taken by the Rams either, not with Jernigan and Donald being cat quick inside penetrators that Williams likes.

In response to the hypothetical, I would bet that the Rams would go with a DB next (best available CB or S), though a DT would not shock me, as there could be some good value there.

    OL: Taylor Lewan, Zach Martin
DT: Stephon Tuitt, Timmy Jernigan, Aaron Donald
DB: Darqueze Dennard, Justin Gilbert, Hasean Clinton-Dix, Calvin Pryor

Any of these, IMO, would be possible picks @ 13 if the Rams went Watkins first. The best value on the board could be one of the DBs.

Not sure Lewan will drop to 13, but that would be choice.

    #2 Sammy Watkins
    #13 Taylor Lewan

    Sign me up!

I've stated before I'd be hesistant taking Watkins because of his limited college route running, but I'm starting to lean towards adding his play-making ability. Especially if we can get a legit OT like Lewan with next pick.

I'd like something for the secondary at 13. It was awful last year. Either a S like Dix or a CB like Dennard. I'd hate to wait and address the oline later but the top tackles are likely gone and it just becomes a BPA deal at this point. Not like we can pass on talent and reach for needs.

Hard to say what's left at 13 but I'd imagine if they're going to pass on OLine with the first pick they will at 13 as well. Joyner/Dix or the best CB left at this point would be my guess for #13.

Re: If we draft Sammy Watkins

I tend to agree with those who say defense. But given those who are likely to be there at #13 don't inspire much confidence, so if we indeed are selecting in our #2 spot then I say we'll trade down because there are teams who will covet Mike Evans or Marquise Lee, making that pick easy to trade.

Forgot to finish the post. I beleive if/when we trade from #13 we'll select Calvin Pryor.

    Go Rams!

Please - no more trading up or drafting wide receivers so high in the draft. In general, this has always proven to be a bad use of draft choices. We could of had Allen and Lacy in the second round last year while still getting two number 1 choices. Although the jury is still out on Travon, it's not looking like a wise decision at this time.

Why would you not take the BPA at #2 but look to take the BPA at #13 ?

The draft is always easier in hindsight.

AV's on the money here - The Rams could have had Lacy and Allen in the second and third rounds, but by that logic so could have thirty other NFL teams.

So very true - which is why if you study over a long period one can determine pretty quickly that drafting WRs, RB's or QB's very high has a big bust to success ratio.

Just not really in favor of doing it unless you know you gotta guy like Andrew Luck. Why do you think we passed on RG 2.1 ? Please don't say because we already had the unproven Bradford. Snead and Fisher had RG3 figured out ahead of time.
