If Clowney is the next Haynesworth, I'll pass.
again I didnt say Clowney will be the next Haynsworth, Im saying that if Fisher got Haynsworth to play lights out with him, I can see Fisher doing the same with Clowney.

Im not againt Barr-- Im against taking him where the Rams have their picks currently at.

As far as clowney is concerned-- hes not my choice with any of our 2 picks; but if we do select him I wouldnt go ape like some of the selections we have done in the past.

I wonder how the weight of opinion might shift if, say, Barr runs a 4.50 and Clowney runs a 4.75.

I'm hardly the first to suggest that they are comparable prospects. Do a Google search of both of their names, and you'll find several articles and comments from analysts who have suggested this as well.

You might be the first one. Oh wait I did see an article from Rich Kotite. Sorry I'd have to make you second behind him...

    Now you're just embarrassing yourself.

Here's a portion of a mock from November by Chris Burke:

    3. St. Louis Rams — via Washington: Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA
Polled the Twitter masses on this one, with most folks arguing St. Louis should do one of two things: trade down, or draft Jadeveon Clowney. If St. Louis lands around this spot with Washington’s pick, another RGIII-like move down the board would make sense. Working off the assumption they stay put, though, I’m dropping Barr in on that defense. He’d give the Rams more flexibility than Clowney, with the potential for just as much destruction.
    4. Atlanta Falcons: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
Assuming Atlanta lands somewhere in the top five, this has to be the dream scenario. Clowney’s exactly the type of player that the Falcons’ underperforming defense needs, and adding him to the handful of young guys who saw extended time this year would be a start toward rebuilding.
There are others. Do your own homework.

Great post, if the Rams were able to make a deal with CLE for their 4th and their pick in the 20's I'd definitely wouldn't mind taking Barr. Even though I like Clowney, I think Barr might be just as good as him and fits more of a need for the Rams. I like the idea of having Long move inside and Barr play DE on passing downs, and with Barr, J Lau, and Tree we'd arguable have the best 4-3 linebacking trio in the NFL. Plus, with the 13th pick we could always go OL (Greg Robinson, Taylor Lewan) and draft a WR with the Indy pick (Kelvin Benjamin, Allen Robinson, Jordan Matthews).

Interesting question. Based on our situation, I tend to agree with your original desire to get Matthews at a slightly lower spot and add picks later. Clowney is really good, but I have some concerns about his work ethic, but under the right coach he'll shape up. Barr has been dropping like a rock in some mocks that I've seen he's going as late as 11 to Tenn. If we trade back/down from 13 to add perhaps even more picks as I don't see the Rams wanting too many of the players available there, I have been looking into Kyle Van Noy, OLB BYU lately. he's a SAM backer and can play in coverage or rush the passer.

    Go Rams!

Barr being a 3-4 OLBer doesn't really translate to the 4-3 OLB position. That's like taking an Alabama LBer and forcing him into the 4-3, doesn't really fit.

    Von Miller made the switch.

Dont'a Hightower (Alabama) plays SLB in the Patriots' base 4-3 defense.

    1. Jones had a one and half sacks less than Robert Quinn as a rookie. Wouldn't put too much stock into the rookie season.

    2. Jones college production pales in comparison to Barr's.

Its as good a comparison as any. Similar size, skill set, etc.

Hopefully, Barr has more... shall we say... self control.

I see... a 2 month old mock is ancient, but Kotite jokes are fresh.

So what's your theory? That Clowney has surpassed Barr since November? And how did he manage that?

I think I know what the problem is... you don't know how to use Google. That's a pity.

Here's a blurb from December (is that recent enough for you, pal?)

Mel Kiper Jr., one of ESPN’s draft experts, disagrees. He said on a web chat Tuesday the Texans should take either UCLA outside linebacker Anthony Barr or South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
He qualified that by saying the Texans’ pick would depend on the new coach and his system.
He didn’t express a preference between Barr and Clowney but acknowledged Clowney’s stock might have fallen because of the speeding ticket last Saturday for driving 110 mph in a 70 mph zone.
Whether you like Kiper or not, he's clearly part of the draft analysis "mainstream."

I've heard a lot of bad things about Barr's tape. Seen multiple scouts, posters, talent evaluators say he's not nearly as impressive on tape as his stats would lead you to believe.

I'd love to have Barr if we trade back. He is a stud.
