Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
ESPN analyst Mark Schlereth was just on Sirius NFL Radio talking about Vernon Davis, and said that he has the attitude that he does not want to be involved in run blocking at all because of his ability as a receiver.
Take it for what it's worth.

Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
Local sports talk radio in Austin were dogging Davis yesterday. Said he was nothing but a work out freak. One guy is a whiner fan and said if the whiners took Davis it would turn out to be the worst first round pick the whiners have had in twenty years.

Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
Yeh. This guy doesnt want to block. All he wants to do is play WR.
Thats why he dominated in college as a blocker and as a receiver.
Isnt Mark Schlereth the same guy who dogged A.J. Hawk? The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.

Maybe you watched different tape than I did. I don't think I ever saw him consistently dominate, and I think if he did, he'd have a much better consensus grade among other sources as a blocker as well.

Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
From the games I saw. He had no trouble blocking. He was very aggressive in run blocking and looked very fluid in his motions. I think he could have used another year, but this class isnt the best in terms of blocking. I'd put Davis right beneath Pope as the best blocker out of the top TEs.Maybe you watched different tape than I did. Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
if he wants to be in the nfl, he'll do whatever the hell the coach tells him to do, I'm sure he'll shutup when he's on a team...

Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
Nick was right to qualify the comment. With 11 days to go before the draft, I would take anything that comes out now with a grain of salt. The disinformation campaigns should get very interesting and creative.

I agree. They can knock on him all they want but you can't take away his college success.

Davis as the second best blocking TE in this draft? Wow, I couldn't possibly disagree more. The only way I would rank him as the second best blocking TE is if we're talking about a pool of three players and Lewis is the third player in the group of Pope and Davis.

I said of the top TEs. Lewis, Pope, and Davis are the first round TEs in my eyes. Anthony Fasano is very good, but I dont think he has cracked the top three.Davis as the second best blocking TE in this draft? Wow, I couldn't possibly disagree more. Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
You're right, you did. But is that supposed to blow anyone out of their seat, being the middle man of a three man group? I just don't see how he's anything more than an okay blocker at this point. He has the potential to improve, but I don't think I've ever seen him consistently dominate as an in line blocker in college, nor do I expect to ever see him do it in the pros.

This guy is only 256 lbs. I know it is like 256 lbs of pure muscle, but it is still only 256 lbs.

Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
He runs a 4.38 and has the hands of a Pro Bowl WR. He was a pretty good blocker in college who dominated at times (thats for Nick) ;-) This guy is going to change the way defenses play. This guy is only 256 lbs. Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
I'd rather take a 256lb PUREMUSCLE TE than a 280lb TE.

Re: Interesting tidbit on Vernon Davis
Thought I'd emphasize some areas, for the heck of it. I don't think I saw one video of Davis catching the ball where he didn't have a clean release off the line, and the three videos they showed of him blocking were not exactly dominant.ESPN Draft Special on Davis
-Mort: GMs think he can be a Pro Bowl guy, had good college production, still has a lot of upside, similar to Shannon Sharpe but faster, needs improvement as a blocker
-Rick Speilman: Two concers, (1) a hair over 6'3", (2) great strength in the weight room but doesn't transfer onto the field as a blocker
-Darren Woodson: Likes his athletic ability, can go get the tough catch, hard time getting him down, outmuscles guys in jump balls, tough match-up for either LB or S
-Mark Schlereth: Fluid in the hips, big and physical but doesn't use hands or feet well in running game, blocks ineffectively with his arms out and feet together, has to improve if he wants to be legit tight end in NFL
Hopefully I wasn't the only one who caught the segment.
