Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
Not to give everyone a pass but the last two years were such a train wreck it is hard to evaluate an individuals performance. No matter how good you are it is impossible to look good when so much around you sucks.
I'm not suggesting Bell was the best player on our o-line last year but I do think he will more than pull his weight when the talent around him improves.
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
Well he really did not have a Center to help him. So now we got a center and lets see what he can do . 1 year is not much time to tell.
My opinion is 3 years for rookies and 3 years for FA thats just my opinion. Lets see where he is after next year.
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
I believe he will have a bounce back year. Our line had no cohesiveness until the last couple weeks of the season. Now that we have a new center, things should work out. Lets hope our Left Tackle plays really hard and makes our line something really good.
I will give him one more year.
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
The Moose is correct. Give him one more year. If he performs this year at the same level as he performed last year, we will be calling him the bennett of the offensive line.

Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
Our O line could not have been all that bad if Sjacks had 1000+ on the ground
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
johnny, i dont know how many rams games you watched, but the offensive line couldnt have been much worse. Jackson is a superstar back and he had some great games, but our pass blocking was just awful and our run blocking was no bargain either.

Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
IMO Bell may end up as a versatile backup. I see Grecco and Cogs manning down the guard spots with a rook like Eugene Monroe playing LT. If he doesn't beat Barron out at RT I think he could be a verry versatile back up. He has played every position on the except LT so he is extremely versatile.

I wish that could be the case, but at his price, if he can't win a starting job, he'll probably either have to re-structure or be cut.
He was playing at a very light weight last year (280-290), and maybe he always has, but that weakness was exposed on the Rams' line. With a bigger center playing beside him, that might not be such a problem anymore.

So kind of like an expensive, better version of Adam Goldberg.
I think if Bell adds more weight this off-season, he could be a solid lineman. You have to remember, this guy was pretty good back in Tennessee. He was right behind Alan Faneca as the #2 lineman in the FA last year. He didn't perform up to expectations last year, but that could be due to poor center play and poor overall play around him, and weight issues.
I think we will see a better version of Jacob Bell when next season rolls around.
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
I think is to early to call him a FA bust give him another year he was a little on the light side he may pick that weight back up.
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
I'd argue he was our second best lineman after Pace, so ... no I don't think it was a bust. It wasn't great so far either...
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
Bell was injured most of the year and played through it even though he had lost significant weight and strength. I think it would be unfair to be critical of the guy without giving him a chance to show what he can do when healthy.

Too much invested. He can't be a backup. He would have to be cut.
Don't get me wrong I'm hopeing with the additions of center and the draft he will get back to his old Titan days...
Re: Jacob Bell--Bad Signing?
Don't give up on Bell yet, IMO.
