Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Vikings have signed Simpson to a one-year contract. Simpson is expected to provide the deep threat that the Vikings offense has been lacking after flashing the ability to make big plays with the Bengals last season.
Simpson hadn’t made good on the promise that made him a second-round pick in 2008 during his first three seasons, but things came together for him last year. He played all 16 games and caught 50 passes for 725 yards and four touchdowns. He will likely have the inside track on the starting wide receiver job opposite Percy Harvin, at least during the games he’s eligible to play next season.
Simpson served a 15-day sentence after pleading guilty to marijuana charges on March 1st. That’s what led to the suspension and what led Florio to wonder if it was all that wise to pursue a player with off-field issues while the team was trying to convince the government to come up with cash to build a new stadium. The stadium effort passed an important hurdle on Monday night and the Vikings obviously don’t feel adding Simpson to the mix is going to keep them from getting the new home they desire.
Mr. Blackmon, welcome to STL!!!

Whoops, meant to put this in the Draft section, could a mod please move it.

Had the same reaction. Zero % chance they take Blackmon now with Harvin, Jenkins and Simpson.
Cleveland probably won't pass on Richardson, and Tampa has other needs. I think things are going to work out as I would have wanted with the second overall pick, just with a bunch of bonus picks.

Re: Jerome Simpson signs with Vikings
I just think the Vikings need bodies at WR just like the Rams do....If the Rams signed Simpson we wouldn't say that the Rams would pass on Blackmon for this sole reason....
Simpson is a marginal player that is just ok and the vikings only signed a one year deal with a guy missing 3 games --- so it is a 13 game contract.....
The Vikings play in the Bears, Packers, and Lions division....they won't win many games next year either with Ponder ...Ponder is a young QB that doesn't have a high ceiling...
Vikings will be picking in the Top 10 next year again...You can put that in the books...So, their draft should have a LONG TERM STRATEGY.....
Probably be looking at QB next year for them --- oh well...this signing means nothing except that the Rams can draft WR depth if they want...
Re: Jerome Simpson signs with Vikings
So the only player we were able to sign in free agency at the position most believe is our most needy, is a receiver who we hope we can ressurrect from the dead.
Unless Fisher thinks someone on the roster will transform into Isaac Bruce or Torry Holt overnight, we may be in a bit of a pickle here, guys.
