Jets | Rumor alert: team moving up to No. 1

Jets | Rumor alert: team moving up to No. 1
    Sun, 26 Feb 2006 18:53:02 -0800

Vic Carucci, of NFL.com, reports one rumor making the rounds at the NFL Combine was the New York Jets trading with the Houston Texans to acquire the No. 1 pick so they can select a quarterback to replace QB Chad Pennington. As the rumor goes, the Jets supposedly covet former USC QB Matt Leinart.

This would change the draft immensely. Its been said all along that the order of the top 5 would be:

    1) Texans - Reggie Bush
    2) Saints - Matt Leinart
    3) Titans - Vince Young
    4) Jets - D'Brickashaw Ferguson
    5) Green Bay - Mario Williams/AJ Hawk

Now if the Jets do move ahead of the Saints to get Leinart, it makes things very different, especially with the talk that Vince Young is slipping. One thing that may happen is you could see Green Bay move up in a deal with the Saints so that they can pick Reggie Bush. That gives the Saints the 5th pick, and they can finally grab a decent LB in AJ Hawk. The Titans may still take Young, just based on athletic ability, or they could take Cutler, whos stock appears to be soaring. If the Texans do pick 4th you have to see them taking Brick.

I would be shocked if the Jets moved up and didnt select Reggie Bush. He would be a perfect fit for that team.
The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.
