INDIANAPOLIS -- So much for any concerns about Julio Jones' 40 time. The University of Alabama wide receiver, at just under 6-3, and weighing 220 pounds, ran a sizzling best of 4.39 seconds (unofficially) in the 40-yard dash Sunday at the NFL Scouting Combine.
That was nearly one-tenth of a second faster than the best 40 time posted by Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green, who ran a 4.48 _ again unofficial. Green is widely considered to be the best wide receiver prospect in the draft, with Jones second.
From a St. Louis standpoint, Jones' fast 40 time probably makes him less likely to still be available when the Rams pick at No. 14 overall.
At quarterback, Blaine Gabbert of Missouri ran a 4.61, which is a good time for a quarterback. Gabbert's main competitor to be the first QB taken, Auburn's Cam Newton, was only 3/100ths of a second faster with an unofficial best of 4.58.
