    "Just-Makes-Plays" Blackmon

Wow. I'm sitting here watching the Oklahoma State Vs. Arizona ballgame on ESPN and man is this guy ridiculous. Blackmon stands at a very tall 6'1 210 pounds and is a strong, physical, airborne piece of awesome.

Him and the quarterback Brandon Weeden at times remind me of Tom Brady and Randy Moss in 2007. They simply play pitch and catch all game. First quarter of the game they connect on a 74 yard bomb to Blackmon for a TD. Blackmon has just scored again with a great endzone catch after Weeden placed the ball only where Blackmon could grab it. Blackmon has went over 100 yards in this game and has broken the record for most consecutive 100 yard receiving games with 12.

As you all know he has locked up the Billitnikoff award with is 109 receptions 1774 receiving yards and 20 (receiving) TDs at the time of this post.

Obviously it takes considerable talent to produce numbers such as those (the likes of which iv'e never heard of in college for a division 1 receiver) but you can tell how he posted those numbers on film. In one of his only games against Nebraska he pretty much owned Prince Amukamara, who is battling LSU's Patrick Peterson for the top cornerback slot in next year's draft with a ridiculous 5 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Averaging 31.4 yards a catch! Against arguably the top corner in the nation!

You can all him a one year wonder all day long. After all last year was his first year playing with Oklahoma State. But if you look at the tape you see a guy who flat out makes plays. His speed is good. His hands are great and very strong. He's agile and plays with a lot of strength. He's actually comparable to Dez Bryant in a lot of ways.

To sum it up, if we walked out of the first round with this guy, I'd be smiling like a fat kid in Dairy Queen...

    That is all...

I think he's produced so well that it's a stretch for him to be around when we draft, however, a loss against the Seahawks this weekend (hope not!) certainly does put him in our range. He's been just incredibly productive this year and so impressive that I'd find it very hard to see him falling into the twenties.

Another factor is whether or not he decides to declare but that should just be a formality.

To me, there's no question that the WR class comes down to three elite prospects (Green, Jones, Blackmon) and then a group of guys who are more B/B+ prospects (Floyd, Baldwin, Broyles, Hankerson, etc.).

I was going to start a similar topic, because that guy made some fantastic plays last night. What does he have, 11 straight games of 100+ yards and a TD?

It certainly is a good year to be in need of a WR, that's for sure.

Try 12. The guy's a monster and no question has been more dominant and reliable than Julio Jones.

Well said, I would agree with that.

Blackmon's bowl performance certainly makes you believe he'll head to the pros, especially with his offensive coordinator leaving the program to come coach here at West Virginia University.

He doesn't have the elite size like Green, Jones, Baldwin or Floyd, but Blackmon is a playmaker that we can really use.

I'd prefer Green, but he will most likely be gone when we pick.

The 5'11 Ryan Broyles is making a pretty strong case for himself in the first round of the upcoming draft right now, too. We're a couple of minutes into the second quarter and he's already at a buck eight on six catches. Great hands, very shifty after the catch, getting plenty of separation, and making clutch plays for OU all season. If he's available when we draft and the value is about right, I would be more than happy for us to pull the trigger and reunite him with Bradford.

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about Broyles as a potential pick for the Rams.

On one hand, he brings a lot of skill to the table - good hands, very fluid in the open field, capable of finding soft spots in coverage. He made a couple of very nice catches last night, and seemed to play the ball well in the air. A solid portion of his receptions are on short routes, so he'd fit what the Rams like to do in the passing game.

On the other hand, size is an issue (5'11" but listed at 183 pounds), as he's built almost more like a slot guy. I also wonder how much of his production and separation is due to the scheme he's in. I believe his two longest receptions last night came on plays where he lined up in the slot and in a bunch formation, respectively. Oklahoma hasn't been producing many great NFL receivers recently, but that doesn't mean there can't be an exception.

I'm not convinced that Broyles has the upside of the 3-4 receivers that I'd rank above him (Green, Blackmon, Jones, arguably Floyd), whom I think all could translate into legitimate #1 receivers at the next level. Broyles may be capable of doing that, but I wonder if he'd need to be in more of an open offense where he could develop into a Wes Welker type.
