Kirwan's Team-by-team draft needs for NFC West

I actually agree with Kirwan here for the most part, except for his Alex Barron analysis. Barron has always been better at defending against the pass instead of the run IMO, and there have been times in games I've watched that he just couldn't make room for Jackson to run through.

I'm not saying that this guy has great pass protection skills, as his pass blocking is not very consistent, but he's definitely a better pass blocker than run blocker.


Blocking tight end is checked off with the Bajema signing.


The rest of Kirwan's analysis is agreeable.

I don't get the sense these are necessarily ranked in order of importance.

Maybe not. I just figured that they were because there's no other obvious ordering to it (i.e. offense then defense, alphabetical, etc.). For example, running back is low on all of the lists, whereas corner is top of the list in one case and bottom of the list in another. The description of the needs also generally seems to suggest the positions at the top of the lists are holes in the starting lineup whereas positions lower on the lists are more often just lacking depth.

Not in our case w/ WR. Kirwan says "another playmaker and some added depth are on the Rams' to-do list." Yet if you view the needs as being ranked by importance, WR is our sixth need. If you need a playmaker and depth at a position, I don't think it's your sixth overall need. I think maybe he started with what he felt the team's top need was, but then just kind of listed them as he thought them up from there. You'll notice for our second listed need, he suggests a middle round guy rather than someone higher up. Just doesn't seem like there's any meaningful order.
