The last 10 Jim Thorpe Award winners

I think this could be a case for Darqueze Dennard. Trust me, I am not saying take him because he won the Jim Thorpe award. I just think it's a great complement to his skills, game tape, and everything he has done at Michigan State. Pretty much everyone who has won the award is worth that #1 pick. Aaron Ross can go either way. Antoine Cason, probably not. The jury is still not out on Claiborne, or Banks but they look good.

Point of the post: I think Darqueze Dennard might be a safe pick with that 2nd 1st round pick. Safe is ofcourse a big opinion, but I think he fits it.

I understand what you're saying, but this list isn't a great indication..

    - Rogers was a bust most of his career. Only re-surfaced behind the best D in the league.
    - Huff was a bust.
    - Ross is a BAD CB.
    - Cason is another bad CB.
    - Jenkins is nothing better than mediocre.
    - Eric Berry and Patrick Peterson are elite.
    - Jury is out on Banks, Claiborne is looking like a big time bust as well.

Outside of all that, I don't think this is any indication on how Dennard will turn out, as you said. I am high on Dennard and am imperssed with his man-to-man coverage skills especially in the press. I do worry about his tendency to grab, pull, and hit WR's prior to getting the ball. Either referee's let him play the way he does or he is going to be an absolute PI MACHINE. Risky stuff.
Warner Pride and Randart like this.

To be honest though looking at the college award winners for any position over a 10 year run will give us a good variety of studs and busts. So while the list is nice and it's a positive for a guy who won an award I wouldn't say it affects their draft stock much at all.

Yeah I might have assessed this incorrectly. I still like Dennards skills and everything I have seen on tape for him. But looking, most of those guys maybe a 2nd rounder at best, definitely not worth the 14th overall
