Leonard agent: Rams want him?
Quoting Brian Leonards agent:

"The other day, the St. Louis Rams had (Rutgers fullback) Brian Leonard in, a player I represent," McCartney said. "I don't know this, but let's just say that Brian's their guy. They're not going to tell the rest of the league that Brian's their guy, so they're going to bring in three other running backs, which they did. "You can't just make it so obvious that the only guys you bring in are the guys you like."
If we acquire Jenkins and draft say Willis in Round one, or another position of need and we still HAVE a second round pick would you pick Leonard up?
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
No. Running backs who are drafted in the first and second round, perhaps even the third round, are likely expecting to be in the mix as a starter down the road. We're looking for a back-up for Jackson, who has established himself in the lead role. We should be spending our second round pick on a starter, not a back-up.

Don't worry Nick -- we won't have a #2 after we trade for Jenkins ... But if we did spend a 2 for a running back and something were to happen to Jackson, it could pan out rather well. Basically it all comes down to how the Rams stack their board. As a fan I'll go along with the guys the Rams have rated as BPA/or BPA to fit their system/needs. For the record though, I don't see any advantage gained by the Rams in tipping their hand to Leonard's agent -- so it is likely the agent is merely blowing smoke for publicity ... I'm sure the Rams hope (like every other team) to draft as many starters as they can on day one -- particularly a starter on defense with their 2nd rd pick (given the team's immediate needs), but drafting for need vs drafting the BPA is a decision I'll defer to the guys whose bread and butter depend on it ... Disclaimer: Obviously I have no idea what the Ram's final offer will be for Jenkins ... It seems the majority of our fans prefer the acquisition of Jenkins ... We'll soon see if the FO shares that preference -- to the extent that that they would be willing to part with something higher than a #3, which apparently has already been offered ... Lastly, there is alot to be said for luck -- good ole luck -- I'm hoping we have a windfall year ...!!!
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
I don't think we need to spend a second round pick on a runningback unless he's one heck of a returner, too. Even then I'd be looking at which defensive prospects we'd passed up. But Leonard is a fullback, which means he's not going to be a speedy change of pace back or a return specialist.
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
1. his agent saying we want him dont mean we do or dont,it dont mean jack!
2.i did mention the possibilities about him being drafted by us in another thread but ONLY as a FB...he needs to improve his lead blocking skills as i think he has a lot of tools to his game but as a FB lead blocker should be his best tool!
having said that can you imagine the sort of problems out Offense could cause the enemy -is jackson gonna run,is leonard gonna run,is bulger gonna pass to jackson,leonard,holt,bruce,bennett,mcmicheal,klop.... they would end up not knowing their ass from their elbow!
3.in the end..it comes down to our D but if leonard is available when we pick then i think it atleast warrants consideration!
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
I think I'd pick up a FB before drafting another RB. I have said before I hope we get some help for that postion in this draft... Hedge-blows!

I think it's a moot point. I'm not sure that Leonard makes it through the first 51 picks anyway.
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
I think the Rams want him the same way that I want a Range Rover.
I'd love to have one, but I'm not willing to pay the price.
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
boulderdash i say , lorenzo booker in the 4th . they can get what they need in the 4th or after . i still say , give the dolphins a late pick , 5th or 6th , and a late pick conditional next year , 08 , and grab RICKY WILLIAMS . how would you like to get hit by a speeding truck , just to get up and get hit by a speeding truck . boom - boom . your so dead .
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
This sounds like an agent trying to boost his clients stock. Leonard would be a nice compliment to Jackson, but he is not going to be there in the 2nd round and after the Jenkins deal we might not have the pick.
Re: Leonard agent: Rams want him?
I ove how many people discuss the Jenkins deal as if it's a sure thing :)
Everyone is right so far, though. No thankyou, very expensive for a backup.
He is very skilled though. H-Back?
