Re: Linehan stays calm on status of defense

Yet another chance for Jimmy Kennedy... It doesnt really break my hear though. He might come out with a little something after a full offseason with Haslett.

Also, it sounds like Linehan is trying to keep us from freaking out if we take anything but a DT with our first pick. Might even be leaning towards a DE.

There is definately an argument for the Rams taking Martz to the playoffs.

Please, not another Martz "inherited the team" argument that has been trashed along time ago.

What do you mean, tx? I thought this was an annual topic along with Kurt Warner still being better than Bulger.

Hell if Martz knew anything about defense they might have won the SB appearance. Linehan will be around a long time imo, and soon we will forget the man who ruined a greater team than they were able to show us! Linehan is our man and he will bring us back to top teir status!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"That's why you don't get caught up in: 'You need a nose tackle,' " Linehan said. "If you've got a guy that can rush the passer — just like a guy who can score touchdowns — you're not going to pass that guy up."

I think Linehan is blowing draft smoke. I can not see the rams passing up on a DT in the first round.

If Kennedy can play solid D, that will really help us. That's a big IF.

Yes, yes, and yes! Martz inherited this team! That fact is beyond question! And while we're at it, the Easter Bunny is real, and the world is flat. Who's with me?

    Linehan Interview about FA/Draft

    http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/spo...3?OpenDocument

    1. The Free Agents were not good.

    2. Claude Wroten is going to have a bigger impact.

    3. Not ready to give up on Kennedy.

    4. Want more pass rush.

It's simple - because we don't have the pieces to make it work. If I'm cooking dinner and I'm making shrimp & scallop fettuccine, maybe it doesn't go as well as I'd hoped. But I can't suddenly change and start making BBQ beef shish kabobs if I don't have the beef or the kabobs or the BBQ sauce.

We don't have a 3-4 nose tackle, and you're not going to run a successful 3-4 without a competent effective player there. Is it a coincidence that successful teams like Pittsburgh and San Diego are known for having two of the most talented noses in the league?

We'd have to shift at least one interior lineman to defensive end, and a move to the 3-4 probably makes the James Hall trade pointless. Witherspoon's effectiveness drops even more in the 3-4 because that's one less body in front of him to allow him to roam freely.

The pieces just aren't there, and you can't advocate a total schematic change because you aren't satisfied with the current scheme. In order to change, you need the pieces to do it. We don't have them, so for better or worse, we'd a 4-3 team.

It would have to be Anderson because Adams won't be there.

I feel a trade coming as well, whether through the draft or for a player something is going to happen.

It always seems to be the teams that stay quiet that make the move.

maybe we can trade for ryan pickett and a couple of things will happen

    1) tx and i will be happy
    2) we dont have to hear about "he only had one good year, he's not worth the money" and most importantly
    3) I will be able to stop whining about how we let pickett get away, a legitimate run stuffing nose tackle type who led the entire nfc in tackles at his position on a horrible defense before we let him walk for NOTHING
