Re: A list of Free Agents for next season

steve hutchinson from seattle is on that free agent list. the guy is an animal. what a huge upgrade that would be for us at guard. pair him with big fat claude, pace and barron and richie the I at center, and we may actually have a legit run blocking line. Dont know if we have the cap to make the move, but it would be a biblical upgrade over what we have now and would really hurt the hawks. I bet they find a way to keep him.

Assuming they get SA signed, wouldn't Hutchinson get their franchise tag?

Re: A list of Free Agents for next season

as usual, The Biggest Bison of all brings clarity to the murky world in which we all dwell. If they did sign alexander, i cant imagine they wouldnt tag hutchinson if they couldnt sign him. Cant let a guy like that just walk. I am suspect as to whether they will actually sign alexander long term.

Regardless of what happens with Alexander, they will either sign or Franchise Hutchinson.

I'm not doubting you if you have some knowledge of this, but I don't know that this statement can be made with certainity. I would say Hutchinson's situation is directly related to what SA does. For example, I doubt they use their franchise on SH with SA unsigned.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they let SA walk free and clear, but I can't imagine their revamped front office pulling such a bone-head move.

Re: A list of Free Agents for next season

Nate Clements is the guy that we must get. If Jerry Gray comes to St.Louis then we have a great shot at getting him. Clements loves playing for Gray.

Hutchinson would be the next guy. I cant wait too see what Seattle does. I dont know their Cap situation, but that would be a lot of money to spend by signing Alexander and Hutchinson. Jones and Hasselbeck already have some nice sized contracts.

Really, I want too see the Rams target the Draft Hard. It's almost like this draft was made for the Rams. Solid LB's and Playmaking TE'S. Exactly what the rams need.

There is a DE from Bama named Mark Anderson that I'd like too see the Rams go after. He's a monster in pass rush and had six sacks on the season and would have had more, but the team wanted to get Freshman Bobby Greenwood some playing time. Anderson could be targeted in the 5th-6th rounds most likely, if not later.

The reason the Shaun Alexander and Steve Hutchinson situations are not relevant to one another is that they don't have any options with SA.

If you remember he didn't sign the tender offered to him. He signed a one year contract with the agreement that he could not be franchised after this season.

So Seattles only options with SA are to either sign him long term, or let him walk with nothing in return. Period.

They have their Franchise tag available, and if they cannot agree to a long term deal with Hutch, they will franchise him. Which, is a good deal anyway.....if you have to franchise someone it's best to make it a guard (as the average of the top 5 salaries at the guard position is much cheaper than most other positions).

And just for the record, I think Seattle is best off to let Alexander walk.

Things to consider:

1) He may very will be the season MVP.
2) He may break 2,000 yards by seasons end.
3) He may break the single season TD record.
4) He's never been injured.
5) He has improved every year he's been in the league.
6) He has dramatically improved his pass blocking, and can now be considered a complete back.

This all leads to an ENORMOUS contract from someone. If Seattle were to give him the deal his agent will be demanding, it would be at the cost of keeping other players, or bringing in any Free Agents.

I don't think Tim Ruskell wants to be pushed back against the cap because of one player.

They can find anyone to rush for 1,200 yards behind their line, and with not signing Alexander can continue to improve the "team" elsewhere.

That's just my $.02.

Wow! Didn't know about that stipulation. SA's pretty much gonna get what he wants then. And with that in mind, Hutch will certainly be a seahawk next year.

Without Alexander, the Hawks are in trouble. Yards can be replaced, points cant. Dont tell me that anyone can run behind that line, because Seattle would have to bring in a very good back to even hope to replace the smallest production by Alexander. Alexander's vision is what sets him apart, and he doesnt get injured. This allows Seattle to run him, and not have to put the game on Hasselbeck, which is a good thing for the Hawks because we've all seen what Hasselebeck does when the game is on his shoulders...
