What does this mean for free agency as of now?
Nothing since the Owners are going to appeal the decision.
how soon could that be though? It was stated that the judge made it were the owners would have to goto a higher court... which is based in st louis (i know that means nothing but kinda cool).
Does this also mean the Rams are allowed to make legal contact with each other in terms of staff discussions and official practices?
The first thing that will happen is that the league will ask for the injunction to be stayed pending the appeal. If that request is granted, then this order does little for the immediate future of the negotiations. If it is denied, all Hell breaks loose (and, hopefully, the league is forced to make a deal when mediation resumes in May).
One thing to keep an eye on for this week - will this ruling open the door to draft day trades involving veteran players?
Exactly Av... and as far as I can see it, at the moment... yes, it does allow player movement, as the lockout is lifted at the moment. Judge Nelson also seems to be very much in the players'... favor(I won't say pocket, and don't want to say pants...), so I would not be surprised at all to see her deny the stay and order the injunction be immediately upheld. Meaning, yes, all hell breaks loose this week with both free agency and the draft happening simutaniously.
"The Rams need a playmaker on the outside, so we may see a trade up with the Cowboys now on the clo... oh wait, the Rams have announced that they just signed Sidney Rice, so I guess there WON'T be a trade up."
