Long nearing a deal!
rotoworld.com
"NBCSports.com's Tom Curran reports the Dolphins are nearing a contract agreement with Michigan OT Jake Long.
The deal would make Long the No. 1 overall pick. The Dolphins began talks with Long's agent, Tom Condon, two weeks ago and never engaged in serious deliberations with any other player. Curran writes that with Long off the board, St. Louis is "a lock" to use the No. 2 pick on a defensive player. UVA DE Chris Long is reportedly "very confident" he'll be the Rams' choice."

Fins, Jake Long Nearing A Deal?
After days of silence regarding the possibility of the Miami Dolphins doing a deal with offensive tackle Jake Long that would make him the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and put him under contract before his name is called out on Saturday, there are now indications that an agreement could be coming.
Tom Curran of NBCSports.com, citing an unnamed source, reports that a deal between the Dolphins and Long is “nearly in place.”
Citing the same source, Curran says that the other Long — Virginia defensive end Chris Long — would then be the prime target of the Rams, with the No. 2 selection.
If/when the Dolphins have a contract in place with the No. 1 pick, the Rams would then be permitted to negotiated with one or more players at the second overall spot.
At this point in the process, however, it’s impossible to know what’s true and what isn’t. Perhaps the Fins are actually pursuing defensive end/linebacker Vernon Gholston, who now must face the reality that he’ll slide to No. 3, at the earliest, if he doesn’t do a deal with the Fins.
The other odd dynamic here is that Jake Long and Gholston are represented by the same firm, CAA.
If it’s true that the Fins intend to pay less money to the No. 1 pick than the No. 1 pick from a year ago received, we’d be shocked if Jake Long is the guy, absent a change in agents. If Tom Condon wouldn’t allow his name to appear on a six-year deal for late first-rounder Benjamin Watson of the Patriots several years ago, there’s no way that Condon would attach his Hancock to a contract that represents a reduction in the value of being the first overall selection in the NFL draft.
So we tend to think that this is a ploy from the Dolphins to get Gholston to tell CAA’s Ben Dogra that whatever the Fins are offering had better be accepted. Now.

Finally, Chris Long is within are grasp....... maybe. Dolphins drafting Jake long is the most logical step they can take. They released their starting right tackle and haven't replaced him yet, Jake Long is going to fill that vacancy.
Hopefully the Dolphins sign Jake Long quick, so the Rams can get a jump start on signing Chris Long.

Yea, but Chad Pennington was "very confident" he'd be a Steeler a few years back too.UVA DE Chris Long is reportedly "very confident" he'll be the Rams' choice."
Just 5 more days, and we'll know for sure."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Long nearing a deal!
Aha!!!!!! We have all been saying the Rams were smokescreening on Glen Dorsey.......and were DEATHLY quiet on Chris Long front. Looks like maybe we were right......
this may be of interest to you guys......after much opining by me for Falcons to take Glen Dorsey - and the conventional wisdom has been that Falcons would take Dorsey(if available at #3)........Welllllllll, the Falcons had a newsconfernce today GM/Dimitroff and Head Coach/Smith and they proceeded to talk about how they like "a lot" of defensive tackles in this draft. hmmmmmmmm.........meanwhile, CNNSI's Peter King said he thinks the Falcons will select Matt Ryan even if Glen Dorsey is available.....wow, the plot thickens.....
anyway, hope you guys get Chris Long - he will be a solid player for you - if he ends up being like Patrick Kerney - who I think he compares favorably to - you guys will be happy in RamLand.
Good luck to you..

Re: Long nearing a deal!
One of the nice things about sitting at #2 this year is that Parcells is picking ahead of us. He puts a premium on getting rookies signed before training camp. If the Dolphins are able to sign their picks quickly, that should set the price for the Rams' picks to be able to do the same.

Re: Long nearing a deal!
It better be Chris Long or Vernon Gholston getting picked. The Phins should take Jake Long, leaving us one of the two NEEDS. PLEASE RAMS FRONT OFFICE, TAKE A DEFENSIVE END THIS YEAR! DONT SCREW IT UP.

Re: Long nearing a deal!
Why not? Let's remember that Carriker spent last year working with Howie Long.

Re: Long nearing a deal!
If you read Peter King on SI.com, you will see the Rams are not interested in Vernon Gholston. Of course that could be a smokescreen, but he claims that he was informed by credible sources. My hope is we get Chris Long.
Rounds 2 & 3 will prove to be very interesting to see if we go WR or OL.
Can't wait until Saturday 3PM! Go Rams!:r

Re: Long nearing a deal!
Too bad I really wanted Jake. Chris id the best possible constelation prize for me. Papa Long should buy a home in STL and screw Fox so he can tutor his real son and his new son Carriker.

Re: Long nearing a deal!
Whether it be Dorsey, Long or Gholston, I can breathe a HUGE sigh of relief with Jake not being available to us. I will be totally satisfied with anyone we take in that position and I won't have to be stressed leading up to draft day.
