Mark Fields?
Anybody think this would be a good pickup to play SAM? Fields is 33 but he's looking for a 3-year contract and he's coming off a Pro-Bowl year. I wouldn't be surprised if he could be signed cheap and he'd be a good stop-gap player if we drafted a LB in the draft.

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports free agent LB Mark Fields (Hodgkin's disease) wants to wait until he receives a clean bill of health before re-signing with the Carolina Panthers this offseason. According to his agent, Jim Steiner, Fields will wait until May to sign a three-year deal. "Before (Fields) makes a commitment to the club, he wants to take the necessary steps to ensure that he can fulfill the three year term and play at a Pro-Bowl level," Steiner said. "Therefore, by the first week in May, Mark anticipates completing all of his regularly scheduled tests and annual follow-up care related to his previous health condition." Fields missed the entire 2003 season while battling Hodgkin's disease.

Re: Mark Fields?
With Fields health is the main issue, even when he donned a Rams uniform. I wouldn't mind seeing him rejoin our defense on a short deal, i.e., one year. No more.
