Thread: Matt Birk to the Rams?

Matt Birk to the Rams?
Per Rotoworld:
The Rams are expected to show interest in C Matt Birk when the free agency period begins in late February.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press suggests Birk could be had for $10 million over two seasons. The Rams haven't had an effective center since Andy McCollum's prime. Birk, 32, should have a couple of years left in him at least.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
hmmmmmmm THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING AND FILL A NEED WITH AN EXPERIENCED O-LINEMAN THAT BRINGS THE GRIT AND TOUGHNESS TO THIS TEAM.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
I'd definitely like to see that. He seems like a solid pickup.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
He'd be a nice stop-gap player for a season or two, but the Rams also need to find someone for the future at that position.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
5Million per year is way too much money.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
not bad, fills one of our needs for a couple of years and gives us a reason to draft a guy like crabtree in the draft.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
I'd like it. I think he could be fine for a few more years, in which case we could try to be finding a replacement I guess.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
I'm very torn by this possible move. Birk is one of the best centers in the league, but is 32. Since linemen can usually play well into their 30's, I would quite imagine that he's got at least a few years in him. He's amazingly team oriented, and I think that he'd certainly get our line to work much better, but there is also the fact that he's only a stopgap solution, and he's certainly an injury risk.
If we can get him, great, but I would be much happier getting Alex Mack in the 2nd round from Cal.

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
That's too much money for him. If he costs that much we're definitely gonna say good bye to a few players.
Trust me, he's not worth THAT much.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
I think he is well worth it. The center position is verry underrated, they are the leaders of the O-line they make the line calls and they are the guys who have to open up holes and have to take on huge NT's like Haynesworth. It isn't a coincidence our line has been terrible since Andy McCollum.

Sounds fine, but make no mistake. Rotoworld has no information. They are merely speculating.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Matt Birk to the Rams?
I thought Kevin Mawae was done when he went to the Titans, yet he has solidified that O line and helps command one of the most potent rushing offenses in the NFL. Oh yeah and he's 38, SIX years older than Birk for those of you that struggle in math. In other words, HECK YES. This doesn't mean we can't draft a center or other o lineman, but it means they can learn the ropes while Birk is paving holes for S Jax.
That being said, AV's right, this should be taken about as seriously as if I posted that the Rams are interested in Jordan Gross and threw out a big number that he could get paid.
By the way the Rams are expected to show interest in T Jordan Gross when the free agency period begins in late February.
The C-Mob Gazette badly estimates Gross could be had for $40 million over five seasons. The Rams haven't had an effective right tackle since a long time. Gross, 28, should be a beast in the league for quite some time.
