Matthews AND Watkins? Is it possible?

Let's be realistic - the Rams defense is good. Really good. Gregg Williams being our DC make them even better. Our O-line is OK. That's as far as I will go with it - it's not bad, but it's not good, either. Fact is, we need to upgrade - and Matthews seems to be part of the answer. After all, would Johnny Football have earned that nickname if it weren't for Matthews?

The #2 pick is NOT a reach for Matthews. His value seems to be higher than Clowney's at this point...and his work ethic seems to be MUCH better.

But...what are the chances that Watkins would still be there at 13? Even though we have Austin and Davis, as well as Stacy, our offense needs more to become "scary good". I think that Watkins would add that factor to the Rams - BUT, we must have Matthews (or someone as good) BEFORE we can think about Watkins, otherwise Watkins wouldn't be able to be effective.

    I'm curious...can we get both?

Doubt it. Watkins will be the first WR off the board, so I highly doubt he lasts until #13. I have a similar mindset but I want Greg Robinson and Mike Evans, so we do see eye-to-eye with our team needs.

Watkins would need to run probably a 4.6 or higher to tall out of the top 10. And even then, it's clear how fast he is on the football field. I don't think there is any chance he falls to us at 13.

I can't see Watkins falling outside of 5 to the Raiders, who would be extremely happy to draft him, I think.

As I was reading this, Sammy clocked 4.34 in his first run.

I hope Watkins is off the board by 13 so we do not get tempted to do a stupid thing and draft him. Most agree that our most serious needs are safety, CB and OT.

We have drafted several WRs over the past couple years including a 1st rounder last year. What we need is an O.C. that can come up with a plan to use their talent. Drafting another WR in the first round would be a major league mistake. If we can trade down and get another pick I am in favor of drafting another WR for depth in the 2nd or 3rd. Fisher should be more demanding of more offensive output by his coaches.
