As for the actual topic, if we draft Jake Long, I'd immediately put him at RG/RT#2. If he beats out Barron for RT, Barron is RG/OT#2. The issue then is, who the hell plays DE?

I think Carriker could be a DE, however, he'll be like Warren Sapp trying to play DE as opposed to Julius Peppers. Chris Long, like Carriker, is a 3-4 DE, but is at least better suited to a 4-3 DE because he's a little faster and more agile. Plus he weighs a whole lot less.

I am a huge fan of Mike Mayock and love listening to him. However I must disagree with him on this one. IMHO we need help at the Defensive End position first and foremost. I'm not for moving Carriker back to the outside.

Mayock does not impress me with his analysis.

He wants to take a former first round pick who, though flawed, has not been horrible and could still develop, and put him on the bench.

He then wants to take the Rams starting UT and move him to DE so that the Rams can start a guy who has done nothing his first two years in the league.

    I'm thinking.... not.

Agreed in this instance. I wasn't entirely impressed with Faulk's analysis of the Rams either. He said the three biggest position of needs for the Rams was (1) ILB, (2) CB, and (3) WR. Though we agree on the third one, I don't think the first two rate close to being that high with me. The fact that Faulk didn't mention defensive end at all made me scratch my head.

I like the idea of Carriker at DE. I think he's a good defensive tackle, but I really believe he could be a star at defensive end.
The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.

Re: Mayock: Rams should draft Jake Long to start @ RT

He also talked about Chris Long as a second option, but said it was less likely because the Rams could fill their need @ DE by shifting Carriker outside (I disagree and don't view that as a great option) if Claude Wroten can step up into the starting line-up.
I think Mayock is close... Here is what I hope we do. Take a pass on Chris Long if he is on the board. I said it. Take Jake Long.

Move AC outside to DE, start Ryan at NT and rotate Glover and Wroten at DT. Draft another DT this year.

    O line

    Pace
    Bell
    Cog
    Long
    Barron

    D line

    Little DE
    Golver - Wroten DT
    Ryan NT
    AC DE

Here is my question, how many more sacks would Chris Long get over AC at DE? I say no more then three. If AC got 5 sacks, I bet Long would only get 8. My point is I would rather upgrade the O line for 08 and the next 10 years with Jake, then add Chris and get a few more sacks. AC against the run we all know he can get it done.

We need to replace Little in a year or so, I'm not sure Chris Long is the guy. I know Jake Long will replace big O.

I said it Jake Long is the pick over Chris Long.

I agree there with you Rambos.

I really love Jake Long and I would also pass on Chris Long if he was still on the board.

I feel it's the safer pick and I would love to see our Oline plugged for 10 years. Looking at our problems last year they where on the Oline and due that our QB and RB got hurt. And where is the biggest part of our salary cap invested? Yes in QB, WR and RB (I hope very soon with a new deal).
I also feel there are more possibilities to adress the DE position later in the draft.

Rammed I agree it’s important to protect Marc. I also think Jake will make SJ better by actually opening holes to run through. Barron will get pushed for his job, either he will step up or get benched. Marc will have more time in the pocket and may even play 16 games. Holt and Bennett will have more time to get down field. Jake will get mentored by Pace, and if Pace should get hurt again the season will not be lost.

Hey, for once I think it's kind of cool that the Rams could draft either Chris Long, Jake Long or Glenn Dorsey and not get burned by drafting a bad guy.

Either of the 3 is a need right now and in the future.

Even Linehan can't screw this draft up....oh wait, there isn't a rookie TE on the roster.

Tx while I agree that all them and more are needs right now and that you probably can't go wrong with the Longs. IMO DTs are harder to predict. Dorsey sort of reminds me of D Lewis, at least in size and i think also some said he played like Sapp.

TX if the guy we take is just OK it could set up back years. He will get a hugh pay day. I hope we just get a guy that is productive.
