Mel Kiper's Latest Mock Draft (3/11)

    Here are the Rams' picks...

    16: Kenny Vaccaro
Pick analysis: With two first-round picks, the Rams can target maximum value ahead of top need, but Vaccaro offers a check in both boxes. Extremely versatile, Vaccaro is sound in coverage, takes great angles and makes very good reads. But he's a physical player who can assist in run support and be effective near the line of scrimmage. Play Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson four times a year, and versatility at safety can't be overstated.

Free-agency factor: I expect the Rams to be shoppers for skill-position help on offense, where they must do more to help Sam Bradford. But again, with two first-round picks, the draft is a form of cheap free agency as well.
It's worth noting Kiper had the Rams passing on Chance Warmack and D.J. Fluker to make this selection.

    22: Justin Hunter
Pick analysis: Even if the Rams land a wide receiver in free agency, they should be looking for some young talent at the position in the draft. Hunter has size, speed and creates a home run threat on the edge. He's got some wiggle, given his height, and can create separation with his feet outside of simply running away from people. Where Hunter must get better is in the ability to deal with physical defenders; he's not very strong, which could make press coverage a problem at the next level. He's just not a very physical player yet.

Free-agency factor: The Rams could either keep or lose the services of one or both of Brandon Gibson and Danny Amendola. Again, they also could add a pass-catcher, but I think they'll draft one regardless.
Kiper has the Rams taking Hunter over Keenan Allen, but both Patterson and Austin were off the board before the Rams' 16th pick.

I would take Keenan Allen over Hunter.
Allen is pro ready great route runner starts rite away.
Hunter is raw with alot of potential. Wasn't Quick raw with alot of potential. Hoping he fills that potential.
The wide receiver class is deep this year. Would rather draft TE Tyler Eifert with second pick number twenty-two.

Not bad, but I'd have a hard time passing up on Warmack.

Warmack at 16 is too good of a value to pass up. Quality safeties will probably be available all the way to round 5 (if not further).

I've seen numerous mocks now with Jon Cooper going ahead of Warmack. Yes, Cooper had a great Combine, but what has really changed that he has leap-frogged Warmack in such a fashion that now Cooper is out of reach, and Warmack isn't?

I've brought this up before. Even in Tennessee Fishers had OL problems and has never used a 1st round pick on a OL.. why would he start now? Hes gonna address that through FA I would assume or later picks.

Fisher has repeatedly stated that he has no problem using a first round pick on and OL, so this presumption is just plain incorrect.

I'll just throw this one out there regarding your assertion assessing Fisher's draft history: Vince Young. Fisher did not have the last say when he worked for ole' Buddy boy. Whatever Jeff's record was, he did not always have the last say. Things have now changed in that regard which is no doubt one of the reasons he accepted the job in St. Louis.

If Warmack is available and the Rams pass on him, i will crap my pants on the spot. It won't be a pretty sight. I was really disappointed when we passed on decastro last year, but i also have no problem with Brockers and agree that he was a great pick.

Re: Mel Kiper's Latest Mock Draft (3/11)

Very rarely will you see me in favor of drafting OL so high, but I do like one of those guards at 16 or 22. I too wanted DeCastro last year.....

Also one of those picks better be a WR as well. Quick certainly isnt the answer; and the fact that the Rams placed him where he was on the depth chart last year speaks volumes about what had gone on with him.
