Memo to WRs: Don't Skip the Combine Workouts
Who is the top WR in this year's draft?
I can't remember a year in which that question prompted so many divergent answers.
Keenan Allen, Terrance Williams, Corrdarrelle Patterson, DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Hunter, Tavon Austin, Da'Rick Rogers, Robert Woods...
Everyone has their favorites, and there is no consensus.
Given this fact, I have one piece of advice to all of these prospects.
You'd better man up at the Combine.
There is nothing more annoying than a player who bows out of Combine drills and then holds a private workout on a favorable track, with the wind at his back, and then boasts a killer 40 time.
If you're Calvin Johnson or A.J. Green, you can get away with "big timing" the Combine.
This, year, however, its "separating the men from the boys" time at the WR position in Indianapolis.
In making my final evaluations, I will definitely hold it against any WR who claims to have tweaked a hamstring, sits out the Combine workouts, and then tries to sell me on a great Pro Day performance.
Right now, Williams is my top guy, followed by Allen and Hopkins, but, believe me... that can change in about four and one-half seconds.
So break in those track shoes, guys, and get ready to run.

Couldn't agree more. In a class in which there is a logjam of guys competing for position in the rankings, showing up and performing on an even playing field with your competitors is a must.

Excited to see all these guys square off. THIS is the event that'll start to separate these guys. I'm thinking Cordarelle Patterson looks great, but I still think (as of right now) that it goes DeAndre Hopkins, Kennan Allen, and Williams/Hunter.

After the Titus Young stuff, I think they are all going to have to impress in their interviews too. I never did understand why the WR position seems to get the most divas. Anyway, it's something I think teams are going to be more wary of in this draft thanks to Young's significant discipline problems.

Re: Memo to WRs: Don't Skip the Combine Workouts
The fact no one else claimed him means I think teams will be wary of it. Since the WR class is so close in terms of talent, it's certainly an additional factor. It doesn't seem like there will be many guys in the realm of "Trouble, but too talented to pass up" so the interview becomes perhaps a little more important this year.

Re: Memo to WRs: Don't Skip the Combine Workouts
WRs and the combine is a very important topic here
In 2009 when we drafted Jason Smith I remember there was a select few of us that wanted Crabtree at #2 and I was one of them but his 40-time (he was going to run at his pro day) was going to be a factor and he subsequently had an injury and could not perform any drills at the combine or pro day I gotta say thou I remember watching crabtree play and reading reports on him and just wanted the Rams to draft him over a OT that year before his injury
Then a couple years ago we were coming off a 7 win season sitting at #14 and pre-combine just about everyone thought Julio Jones was going to be our pick at #14 then he thought he was deon Sanders and just dominated at the combine and went from a top 20 pick to top 5 and just destroyed our chance of getting that legit #1 target
The 1 WR candidate that I think has the Most to gain is Justin Hunter... If he is healthy he will shine in the combine the guy is a track star with size and top end speed if he can perform to his track star potential in the combine drills and teams can see the football player he is in the WR drills he can lock a top 20 selection...I think he has the highest ceiling of all the WRs in the draft

And so it begins...
Keenan Allen's agent has announced that Allen won't participate in drills at the Combine.
