Mock using the latest WalterFootball board

In this mock I'm using WalterFootball board to select players.

    1.16 Jarvis Jones, DE/OLB, Georgia
Jarvis is on the board at 16. I can't pass on him, this would be a huge get for the Rams who have to contain two option QBs in the west.

    1.22 Keenan Allen, WR, California
I'm not a huge fan but he is the best player on the board and he clearly fills a need.

    2.46 Kyle Long, OT/G, Oregon
Long comes in and starts at the LG spot. He could compete at RT and make Roger potential trade bait.

3.78 Phillip Thomas, FS, Fresno State
Rams get a 6'1 ball hawking FS in Thomas. Considering the Rams front seven, there should be plenty of forced passes to be had.

    4.119 Josh Evans, S, Florida
We take the other safety here, some say he may be better then Elam. He comes in and pushes whoever is in front of him.

    5.149 Josh Boyce, WR, TCU
Once again speed kills and Josh has it, he ran a 4.38 at the combine and did it with a broken foot. He can come in and take some reps in the slot.

I don't like the Jarvis Jones pick. Tantelizing talent, but he doesn't fit in with the scheme. He projects as a 3-4 OLB pass rush specialist. He doesn't seem to fit as well as 4-3 down lineman, or a 4-3 OLB. I don't think the pick makes a lot of sense from a scheme standpoint.

Unless I have that wrong, then please correct me, that's the impression I had though from reading reports. Not a scout myself at all.

Yeah we have kicked that one around a lot here in the Clan. He maybe best in a 3-4 but Jones says thinks he fits best into a 4-3 defense and wants to play in that scheme. Not sure if that's Jones trying to sell himself to all the teams.

Here is the thing he may or may not be as effective in a 4-3 but he will still be scary good in the 4-3.

The worst part of Jarvis Jones' game is his run defense. He would be a liability against RGIII and Kapernick. I also don't like the idea of your opponents dictating your draft moves. That's some next level head games by some organizations if it really happens.

Jones ran a 4.92 at his pro day today. I'm not sure he'd be the read-option answer for us at OLB.

This is a very good point here we have two QBs that can easily escape the pocket and gash defenses with their speed in our division not to mention the possibility of the Cards taking Geno Smith...we are going to need speed on defense to win in this division

I once thought the Rams would be foolish to pass on Jarvis Jones, but I can certainly see a scenario in which I'd pass on him even if he were there at 16. And that is if Austin and/or Patterson are there.

Not to mention the fact that players like Sio Moore can be had later in the draft.

Plus I'm kinda looking forward to seeing how Jabara Williams has progressed, and whether or not he can fill that final OLB spot.

This is one of my favorite picks in the 5th or 6th round. He is slated to go in the 5th as you have him. I like the idea of a 6'0+ WR in the first three rounds and Boyce in the later rounds. IMO he will prove to be more valuable then a 5th in the NFL.

Actually, Jones is a prototype SAM linebacker, not a 3-4 OLB, who tend to be taller, at least ideally, and usually run 4.5 or so.

He is also a beast as a player, and won't get to 16, though I wish he would.

Jarvis Jones has 45.5 career tackles for loss, so I'd say he is OK against the run as a "weak spot" .

The guy is a physical force, so he can hold his own as a SAM, and be an All Pro.

Have you actually seen this monster play?? I have, a lot.
He dominates games, in the best college football league ever right now.

I agree with you Barry, he will be a force. I did this mock using the players that where still on the board per WalterFootball. I don't think he will be on the board at 16, but I would take him even after he ran a bad 40. The guy is a football player.
