Moot point on QB of future - Quinn traded to Broncos

There was a long thread on Quinn - its moot now. He's traded to the Broncos for a backup FB, a 2011 6th rounder, and a conditional 2012 draft choice. Oh how the mighty have fallen (btw I would have preferred him to Feeley).

All depend on what is the 2012 pick, but right now what a steal by the Broncos.
    Poor Browns.

Why are we overrating Quinn so badly here? If he was the QB of the future, it's the post-apocalyptic future where the Rams are the only NFL team left, careening through the ruins of Middle America in a beaten up Winnebago and a refurbished M-2 Bradley.

Good point. Quinn was overrated coming out of Notre Dame and sat in the draft day green room as team after team took a pass on him before Cleveland finally put him out of his misery. With his mediocre abilities, he'll be lucky to hold on to the Broncos backup job.

AJ Feeley had like 5 good games as an Eagle 5 freaking years ago. Can we stop making excuses for crappy signings?

If you want to talk about passing on a QB, AJ Feeley was sitting on his couch while 150 players were picked before him 5th ROUND. If you recall, the Eagles passed on him - TWICE. Then the Dolphins picked him up (and they had NO QB at the time). I'll give you one guess what they did - they PASSED ON HIM.

Recurring theme here - after the Dolphins passed, the Chargers picked him up. He was 3rd string, and I'll let you guess again what happened. He was cut, because he is terrible, and the Chargers - you guessed it - PASSED ON HIM.

So, recent history - AJ Feeley threw 7 picks in two games last year. CLEARLY, he is a physical specimen and Quinn just can't compare.

Look at this from a 3rd party perspective and not from a "anything Rams do I will blindly support" perspective. AJ Feeley signing makes the Rams look like idiots if we plan on starting him, and with that kind of money we may well be.

Broncos got one helluva deal. Yeesh. Quinn has not been able to highlight his talent, is paid less than AJ 3rd string Feeley, and other teams are making plays for him. We didn't. But make your case for AJ Feeley over Quinn - so far it has been "Quinn was sitting in the green room and got put out of his misery". Lets compare apples to apples - recent performance, contract, upside, and so forth. Quinn wins, hands down.

Dunno. The return on that deal shows you just how little NFL teams regarded Quinn. A short yardage fullback and two late round picks over the next two seasons? Yikes.

Still, if McDaniels could help turn Cassel into a star in New England, maybe he can make Quinn serviceable at the NFL level. He'll certainly have more talent to work with in Denver.

"That kind of money" has been shown to be what the market has been paying back-up quarterbacks for the last three years. If you don't like Feeley, that's fine. But this idea that the Rams gave him more than market value for a back-up quarterback has been debunked.

That's what I'm thinking. To me, I have a feeling Quinn is going to turn his career around in Denver. Fresh start, better talent, better organization. Hmm.

    Good luck to Quinn.

Not overrated but value and upside

It's been funny how people bash the thought of signing Quinn with the idea that he's the second-coming. No one said give up a first for him BUT the question is whether we would get more value out of a 6th for NEXT year plus a low pick for the year AFTER. The comparison is not that he's some great hero, but whether you would rather have Feeley on your squad at $3M per with no draft choices given up; or Quinn on your squad for $700K and one very low round pick two and three years from now (ie, what have the Rams gotten out of their 6th and 7th round picks?).

You know that Feeley is a less than ordinary career backup (btw Quinn has more starts than Feeley!); while Quinn is a young QB who has not performed well, but COULD still have some upside.

While I don't love Quinn, I like him better than Feeley, especially at that price.

I'm not sure what Feeley has to do with the opinion that Brady Quinn is overrated. Nothing in this thread prior to your post from what I can see makes any kind of comparison between the two. Coming out of college, Feeley was not seen as a potential top pick or savior for some lucky NFL team as Quinn was. Personally, I don't see much in either guy, but the point here that PeoriaRam and I are making is that Quinn is being vastly overrated by many. The fact is, most NFL talent evaluators felt the same way and made their voices heard in the 2007 draft, and going into his 4th year in the NFL, Quinn has done absolutely nothing to prove them wrong.

Is there a chance that Quinn can make some miraculous turnaround in Denver? Sure there's a chance, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.
