My ever changing mock draft
Round 1: Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State
This guy is the best pass rusher in the draft. Team him up with LL and who do you double team.
Round 2: Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Size, speed and YAC.
Round 3: Cliff Avril, OLB, Purdue
More speed on the outside and pass rushing ability. Think how Haslett could move he, WW, LL and Gholston around. It would create matchup problems.
Round 4: Tom Zbikowski, SS, Notre Dame
A real hitter teamed up with OJ. He would take away the middle of the field.
Round 5: Trae Williams, CB, South Florida
Not great size. Would project as a nickle or dime back at best, but would add depth. He is a ballhawk.
Round 6: Pedro Sosa, OT, Rutgers
More depth for the o line.

Re: My ever changing mock draft
First two rounds are great. No OL help until round six is pretty questionable to me, though. I doubt Cliff Avril is there in the third, so adding some help on the offensive line with that pick would be good.

Re: My ever changing mock draft
I agree with round 3 if Avrell is gone. I was trying to fill the defense with the BPA. If he is gone, I would go O line in round 3 too.

I take Tom Zbikowski in the third and I hope we traded back and got Gholston.

Re: My ever changing mock draft
I'd love to trade back, but it is a slim possibility. That said, if Long is gone, Gholston did have the combine to not be panned too heavily as our pick, especially as he fills our biggest need. I'm thinking that if we can't trade back, we do one of two things: just take him, or let our time on the clock expire and force a "trade back" with the Falcons, who are unlikely to take Gholston, to save on the cap hit. Sneaky, ain't it?
At the very least we need an O-line pick by round 4, as even with Bell, our line depth is not where we need it to be, lest we forget last year. We'll never have a year like that, but we still need to have players to be ready to step in and start grooming a replacement for Pace.
What I think is a very real possibility is to trade down in the second and even maybe third rounds and pick up some extra picks to be able then to move up into the second half of the third round and pick up Zbikowski, as I think in this dirge of a safety class that he'll be going somewhere there.

The class of 2009 safeties is looking like one of the deepest ever.
