My Hobby as a Draftnik, and What I Think to be True

    Let's start with some confessions.

I've never worked for an NFL team.
I've never held a press pass and covered an NFL team for the media.
The highest level of football I played was college dorm league intramural (for the record, I was a FS).

I have been a fan of the NFL for 30+ years.
I have followed, and spent entirely too much time evaluating, most of the drafts of the last three decades.
I read a lot, and am pretty good and finding information on the internet.

My biggest strengths as a draft prognosticator, in my humble estimation, come from my ability to process information, apply rational principles, spot trends, and put aside my subjective views in favor of objective analysis.

All that said, my success rate in projecting NFL draft outcomes, and the success of the players drafted, is no better than that of countless fans who, in today's world, can publish their views on the internet.

So why should you read my mock drafts, draft boards and commentary?

    Well, here's my secret.

I don't care if I'm right. I simply wish to foster intelligent discussions on the topic. Doing so provides an outlet for me (and others) to keep talking about football throughout the offseason.

If you disagree with my views, I'll explain to you what my thought process was.

If I think you are off-base, I'll tell you so.

If it turns out that you were right and I was wrong, I'll give you full credit.

This is a hobby and, thus, by definition, should be a fun distraction from the daily grind.

Plus, I throw a draft party every year, and its awesome!

    Sincerely,

    An Average Internet Draftnik

Well... at this point, they only do one round the first night, and my party's never gone into a Day 2.

Not at all. It was simultaneously a fine play on words, and a good straight line for me!

Draft party would be a hoot! If I tried to throw one here it would be party of one. :-/ Be nice to go to a place and enjoy the fun of it all. Scream at the TV, high five picks, do the quick stand up and twirl saying "oh no he didn't" or whatever fun phrase is in. Anyone in the high desert of Southern California doing so hit me up. :-)
