I always hate it when guys withdraw from this game. It's a chance to show everything you have to NFL coaches and you drop out because you're scared of getting hurt. I personally cant wait to go to the Senior Bowl and see DeMeco Ryans and Freddie Roach dominating at their LB positions for one last time at the collegiate level. After the Senior Bowl, it's on too the NFL

I dunno, there's a reason some of the top picks don't come to this thing. You rarely see the top passers go there, and I don't think Jimmy Williams is going either. When you're projected to go so high, it really is a pretty big risk to go. If you get injured, there's a difference of MILLIONS of dollars. These guys can show off their stuff at workouts and the combine.

Jimmy Williams not going is a HUGE mistake. He was inconsistent this season and showed some discipline problems in the games. I respect the guys that go more than the guys that dont. Guys like Jay Cutler, Brodie Croyle, Chad Greenway, DeMeco Ryans, D'Brickshaw Ferguson. They're out there playing football. They're not in a dome doing track. That's what I like to see.

If football wasn't a business, I would agree with you. But for guys whose play during the season speaks for itself, I don't think it would be wise to risk millions of dollars when you're really not going to help your stock that much at all.

I know. I just love to see these guys out there working hard against other top competition. Plus, I'm going to be there Saturday and I was really looking foward to seeing those guys in person.

Re: NCAA | Huff withdraws from Senior Bowl
If I was Huff or Williams, I'd be working with a track coach on my 40 yard dash and not worrying about the Senior Bowl.
If they run 4.45 or better, they are guaranteed first rounders.

Re: NCAA | Huff withdraws from Senior Bowl
I would contend that Williams and Huff are already guaranteed first rounders. Even if by some strange twist of fate they run slower 40-times than most predict, I don't know if it'll hurt them that much because teams are already looking at them as potential safeties as well as CBs.

Re: NCAA | Huff withdraws from Senior Bowl
I agree with both you guys. On the one hand, its a business. why should they care how they improve their play at this point. Perception is reality. If the perception is that there play is good enough to be selected at a certain level of the draft, and they are happy with that projected level, why should they risk it. As a fan and as a purist, one would allways hope that people will push themselves to be the best they can be and measure themselves against top competition.
That argument of course is a lot easier to meke if you are not the one risking the multi million dollar signing bonus.

Re: NCAA | Huff withdraws from Senior Bowl
There have been players who have seen their draft status implode due to their 40 time.
Remember Ernest Shazor last year. He went from a Day 1 pick (I seem to recall some even had him in the late 1st round) to undrafted after running around a 4.8 in the 40.

Re: NCAA | Huff withdraws from Senior Bowl
At this point, nobody is a guaranteed first rounder. The work-outs and combine can make or break a draft.

The Cards took him as a UFA, signed him to the practice squad and activated him late in the year. He played in 2 games recording 1 tackle.
