There have been players who have seen their draft status implode due to their 40 time.

Remember Ernest Shazor last year. He went from a Day 1 pick (I seem to recall some even had him in the late 1st round) to undrafted after running around a 4.8 in the 40.

Two things...

One, neither Williams nor Huff are going to run 4.8 40's unless they lose a foot between now and the combine. A slow 40-time can cause players to drop, but I would be surprised if either Huff or Williams ran worse than a 4.55.

Two, I think there's a difference between a borderline first round pick dropping and a post-season top fifteen pick dropping.

And again, even if Williams and Huff run slower than expected, I don't think it's going to tremendously hurt them because there's already questions about projecting them to safety, which doesn't require as much speed anyways. I certainly don't think it takes them out of the first round, but what do I know?

I don't disagree with that. My only point is that if they run a sub 4.45, nobody will care whether they play in the Senior Bowl.
