Nick's 2014 Second Round Mock Draft

I decided to throw together a quick second round mock draft. While I didn't project trades, obviously there will be some that will shake things up. But I just wanted to have a little fun and see what a second round projection might look like with Day One in the books.

    33. Houston Texans: Tom Savage, QB, Pittsburgh
    Savage over Carr.....that's bold, brother.
    34. Washington Redskins: Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama
So because of a trade they made to acquire a player who now has health concerns, their 1st pick in this draft lands them a player with serious health concerns who is supposed to protect the aforementioned player with health concerns. Irony....thy name is Redskins.
    37. Atlanta Falcons: Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri
William Moore, Sean Weatherspoon, and now Kony Ealy. Atlanta is becoming 'Zou South.
    44. St. Louis Rams: Lamarcus Joyner, DB, Florida State
Man, I just don't know. Can he really matchup with TEs and bigger WRs? There's several amusement parks that would measure him before letting him ride the roller coasters.
    64. Seattle Seahawks: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska
Of....COURSE...the 'hawks get another overgrown corner.

    Looks good.

I'm hoping the Rams use some of the late picks to be aggressive and move up and grab another pick in the second. Heck maybe even use a future pick to do it.

    44. St. Louis Rams: Lamarcus Joyner, DB, Florida State
    50. Miami Dolphins: Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG, UCLA
    or
    44. St. Louis Rams: Lamarcus Joyner, DB, Florida State
    59. Indianapolis Colts: Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State

    Would make my day!

    Lots of good picks here.

If the Texans took Savage I would simply give them the worst draft of all 32 teams. That would be an absolute shocker!

Love the Ealy to Atlanta pick. They need pass rushing help and were talking about moving up in round 1. Instead they improve both trenches and still get a good pass rusher.

I love Joyner, but is he enough for Fisher and Snead to pass up on a guy like Xavier Su'a-Filo?

Re: Nick's 2014 Second Round Mock Draft

Thanks for the responses, guys! I'll try to address some points...

-I'm not convinced the Texans take a QB there, but I slotted Savage as a potential option. I don't think they go Carr, because, y'know... so it's between Savage and Garoppolo, and I think Tom has the momentum now. But again, not convinced at all that's the pick. Louis Nix makes a lot of sense.

-I think teams will have to rely on their own medical about Kouandjio. It would be interesting if a guy with injury issues went to protect a quarterback with injury issues, but he's arguably the best OL on the board at that point if you're a team that isn't too concerned about his condition.

-The Falcons may have missed on trading up for a pass rusher, but they should find value here if they want one. Whether it's Ealy, Lawrence, or Cricthon. I think they're poised to come away with a really good group of rookies on Day 1-2.

-Joyner, I think, is going to be an option based on value. Size didn't matter to Fisher when it came to Finnegan, but Joyner might be a different case. As a pure safety, I probably prefer Brooks. But I'm getting the impression I'm higher on him that some and he may not be good value in the second though, hence why he fell out of this projection.

-I could be way off, but when it comes to passing on some of the OL on the board, I'm wondering if one of the reasons the Rams were willing to move up for Martin was his versatility. I don't know that Su'a-Filo or Jackson really have it at the NFL level. Bitonio does, so he'd be an option.

Makes sense I will keep an eye on Bitonio during the second. I though I read at one point the Hawks liked Xavier Su'a-Filo so maybe they take him.

Re: Nick's 2014 Second Round Mock Draft

    Nick,

I'm a little surprised that you don't have Austin Sefarian-Jenkins anywhere is the 2nd round. Especially since I had heard he knocked it out of the park at his Pro day and all.

At any rate many believe we are OK at TE but I just don't see it. What we have are 3 guys who can each perform a function or so but we don't have that one guy who can do it all.

    Jered Cook......good receiver, poor blocker
lance Kendricks.....hybrid motion TE ....too small to line up on the line.
Cory Harkey.......excellent blocker....not much juice in the passing game.

I'm hoping that a player like ASJ can do all of the above so the defenses will have to play run or pass at all times when he is on the field.

NTM at 6'6" or so he will be a favorite target of Sam no doubt.

    WHAT SAY YE?
