Niners waive former Seahawks WR Darrell Jackson

Niners waive former Seahawks WR Darrell Jackson after one season
    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco ***** waived receiver Darrell Jackson on Saturday after one unproductive season with the club.

Jackson joined the ***** in a trade last April after eight seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He made at least one catch in each of his 15 starts for San Francisco, but finished the season with just 46 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns in the NFL's least productive offense.

"I always had a great deal of respect for Darrell," ***** coach Mike Nolan said. "I appreciated his dedication and work ethic during his season with the *****. He always had a positive attitude every day he came to work. While we are going in a different direction, I know he can still produce and be an asset to an NFL team this year."

The ***** signed longtime Rams receiver Isaac Bruce as a free agent last month, adding another veteran who spent his entire career with a division rival. San Francisco also is close to a deal with Bryant Johnson, the Arizona Cardinals' No. 3 receiver for the last five seasons, to play alongside Arnaz Battle and Ashley Lelie in what's been arguably the NFL's least impressive group of receivers for the last few seasons.

Jackson would have made $4 million next season in salary and bonuses. Bruce agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal two weeks ago.

I think he'd be a good addition. He didn't work out here mainly because Smitty couldn't throw a timing pattern to save his life last year, especially with no time to throw. D-Jack and Bulger would probably work really well together.

I couldn't disagree more, Kramer. The seachickens let him go to a division rival a year ago. Of any free agent, he'd know their defense and offense best and would be able to share that experience with said rival. They knew he was washed up a year ago, and he certainly is now. Yes, he would cost us less than Bruce did, however he'll cost more than a rookie and probably do less. We need to get younger at receiver, not more decrepit.

    I know; that's why I think he'd be a good addition....

I kid, I kid. Honestly, though, I think he's still got some gas in the tank, and I definitely don't think we can judge the guy by his performance in our dysfunctional mess of an offense in '07. He's still a solid possession receiver (except for the whole, you know, catching the ball thing), and could likely contribute as a spot player with a one-year deal while y'all groom a successor to Holt/Bruce.

Ok, Kramer, if you think Jackson is worth a roster spot(on a rival at least... suspicious ), what do you think of Lelie then? I affectionately refer to him as "Stone Hands".

We need youth and speed in our third receiver. Jackson can't name either of those factors as a strength. No reason he should be considered an option.
