Kendall Hunter he is a more well rounded back, but still has some speed. If we are picking guys in round three I would take Shane Vereen, Jordan Toddman, and Demarco Murray over both guys.
I like Todman, Hunter and Devine in Round 3. If a Round 2 pick is required to obtain any of those players, I'm on the fence.
I've been thinking that maybe the Rams could use the 1st round pick on Ingram if they fell SJ39 has 1-2 years left as being a "dominant" RB. 2nd round I'd be fine as long as they plan to fill other holes through the draft and FA. I like Thomas more than Hunter and Devine, but I think he might have a 2nd round grade.
Devine was unimpressive to me this past season. Still like him because it seemed to be more of an inability to find open space.
Hunter Thompson is a stud.
I'd also LaMichael James (Oregon), J. Rodger (Oregon State - and it would have to be 6th roundish), Derrick Locke (Kentucky).
I wouldn't draft ANY in the 3rd round because all are very similar players. I'd consider in the 4th because that's a high risk / high reward draft slot. The Chiefs took McCluster in the 2nd, they over paid.
edit: Rams can get Jackson's replacement in 2013. He has legs left, why draft his replacement to spend 2 years on the bench of an 8 year career? That's something the Buffalo Bills are really good at doing.
Devine can be electrifying, but many times this season he was very frustrating. He has a lot of very good physical skills, but I think he's going to need a fair amount of coaching at the next level. Needs to know when to turn on the jets and try to get to the corner, and when to cut things upfield even if the blocking isn't perfect. If we're talking about a third rounder, I'd probably be more comfortable with Hunter. But Devine as a mid-round change of pace back is fine.
I'd prefer Hunter. As others have said, Devine has some bright moments, but is raw and needs a lot of work. Hunter is a more rounded back.
If Rams pick Devine at all, we are blessed. With Rams picking Sammy and Jlau recently. We are on a roll.
What about Daniel Thomas? He has similar physical characteristics with Steven Jackson and he looks to be the perfect guy who can be molded to SJ's running style. I wouldn't mind grabbing him in the 3rd round, that's if he drops there.
