    Eugene Monroe
    Arms: 33 7/8"
    Hands: 11 1/8"
Very impressed by the arm length and hand size of Monroe. Once he gets his mitts on a defender, I think it's going to be tough for them to shed that block. Right now, it's a two horse race between Monroe and Jason Smith. Both of these guys, IMO, have had good combines. There's a lot to love about Smith's attitude and personality, and clearly he's spent some time in the weight room with those 33 reps on the bench.

According to his agent, Smith left the combine because he has two private workouts this afternoon. The agent also took the fall for him being AWOL earlier in the day, saying he simply did not communicate Smith's plan to leave to the teams in Indy. Kind of fishy. He may be falling out of the top ten in my post-combine mock.

Re: The Official 2009 NFL Combine Thread

Mack better be ready to have a great pro day because Eric Wood from Louisville is starting to breath down his neck a little. They are almost identical physically and Eric was a top 10 OL in 4 of the workouts.

    Bench Press
    Vertical Jump
    3-cone drill
    20 yard shuttle

Plus he started 49 games at U of L and is definitely a character guy with natural leadership abilities.

    IMHO

    bench press results

Jason Smith 33 reps. Monroe 23 reps. Oher 21 reps. Pretty pathetic that a punting prospect did more reps than both Monroe and Oher.

    Ramming speed to all

    Some WR measurements from today...

    Re: bench press results

Haha I know that is hilarious. That punter did 25 I believe. Maybe we should draft him and put him at tackle? =0

But keep in mind that being a good lineman also depends largely on lower body strength. Even though they didn't do alot of reps, that doesn't mean they aren't good linemen. I am still looking at them the same way I did before.

Also, Wagoner is reporting on the official Rams site that Aaron Curry said his measurements were 61 1/2" and 254 pounds. Nice!

WoW Monroe only did 23 reps in the Bench press.

Kenny Britt did 23 too and he is a WR.
Beanie Wells a RB did 25 Monroe should be embarrased.

With all that info (not including the ?) They stack up pretty equally except the Bench press drills and maybe the hands drill.

But come draft day i think we should take Eugene Monroe. Eugene Monroe faced better competion and i think he is ready for the NFL right now. He will not be as dominent as J. Smith but he will be very consistent (huge difference from Barron).

Also Eugene Monroe probably faced Chris Long in practice in college. They both are from Virginia. I think Monroe will be great. J. Baylor will probably be better in the run but S-Jax dont need that he will give us a good game with or without an OL.

I wouldn't call it pathetic. Those numbers aren't great but I don't think they necessarily hurt either of them, especially with their arm length. I think Jake Long's 37 reps last year probably raised expectations for the top prospects. Plenty of guys have put up similar numbers and have gone on to be great players at the left tackle position. Look at guys like Joe Thomas, Ryan Clady, Michael Roos, etc.

Could they use more upper body strength? It wouldn't hurt, and that's something they will improve as part of an NFL training regimen. But you don't need elite upper body strength on the left side. Functional strength is fine so long as it's combined with great agility, lateral quickness, and the ability to leverage.

ive followed Andre Smith for a while now and whilst i tend to agree that he likely is better suited for OG (or RT) than the LT position....i see him having the tools to one day become the number 1 guard in the entire NFL(once Hutchinson is done..) so although i can see him falling due to his percieved lack of LT skills, switching to become the number 1 prospect in the OG class should make sure he dont get past the first round....if he sticks to his guns and refuses to make the switch i could see people picking Britton and or Beatty over him and Andre falling deeper down the draft boards, but with a surprisingly high amount of teams needing O-line help,he`s sure to be taken by one of the 33 picks before our 2nd round pick.

Re: The Official 2009 NFL Combine Thread

Courtesy of Tony Pauline and SI.com...

It's been a bizarre few days for Alabama offensive tackle Andre Smith, considered by most to be a top five pick. Immediately before the second group of offensive linemen were about to start their workout, an official announcement was made stating Smith had left the combine headquarters unannounced. After a long search, Smith was found 30 minutes before the workout began. The announcement went on to say Smith and his agent were giving conflicting stories as to the reason of his disappearance. Sources later said Smith's interviews with teams have been going horribly. He's been inappropriately dressed and has been giving a number of conflicting statements as to why he was choosing not to workout at the combine. Several offensive line coaches have already suggested Smith be removed from their team's draft board and there's no doubt his draft stock is falling.

Jason Smith and Aaron Curry are looking really good, right now. At this point whichever one the Lions don't pick should be a Ram

Re: The Official 2009 NFL Combine Thread

    Some LB weights

Aaron Curry- 256 (appeal to 3-4 teams?)
Rey Mauluga- 249 (smaller to run 40?)
James Laurantis- 244 (Best weight for him?)

all of them are 6'2. I think Curry will bench the most and may have the best 40 time, he will become a legit top 3 pick IMO.

Curry in my mind and is number 2 behind Jason Smith IMO. If the Lions select Smith I would be more than happy to select Curry.

    Aaron Curry- 6'2 254
Aaron Has the size to play any of the LB positions, however Mike Mayock listed Curry as an OLB prospect on his Top 20. Is there still any little doubt as to whether he can play MLB in a 4-3 defense?
