Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

Nick, I'd put Floyd going anywhere between 10(if Johnson leaves Buffalo), to 18(assuming that VJax leaves SD). I think the Bears' will have to go for Wright or whatever WR they have 3rd on their chart. They may also be looking at a FA WR and looking to grab some of the good linebackers/OL help available at 19.

Luck running under 4.6 is amazing, and means that he locked up #1, in my mind. He can compare to RG3 athletically, but still blows him away mentally. Just saw Wright put up a 4.45... that could drop him if he doesn't run faster. He's short so he needs that DJax speed.

    I believe!

Randle with a 4.5 and 4.56. As they're talking about, he plays faster on the field. I'd be happy to take him at 2.1 if he lasts. He's 6'3" and has less production at LSU because of the offense.

    I really like Streeter. He ran a 4.34 and a 4.38. Plus hes 6'4 7/8.

Not to mention Hill is 6'4 3/8 and ran a 4.30 and 4.31. Looks like big WR's are stealing the show today.

Irvin was saying that Streeter didn't play that fast at the U because the coach said he had issues absorbing the playbook to the point where he could play fast. That's a bit of a knock on him as far as I'm concerned. Track speed is good, but I want a guy who will play mentally fast than a guy who can run fast in spandex.

It is rather interesting that the tall guys are running faster and the fast guys are slipping, though. If he doesn't do better at the Baylor Pro-day, Wright could fall, even if he plays faster on tape. He doesn't have height to rely on.

Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

This is a very athletic and deep class of receivers. There's good talent to be had in the second and third rounds. Some very intriguing prospects here, though they're not quite as NFL ready as those on the top.

A team like the Rams have to ask themselves if the value is better to take Blackmon in the Top Six or one of these guys later on, kind of a similar discussion as the one we had about Richardson earlier in the week.

The key is to not get completely hypnotized by these forty times. They're nice, but there are a limited number of routes they apply to. The vast majority of the time, receivers are going to be expected to create separation through short area quickness, lateral agility, explosion, and route running. Being able to blaze forty yards down the field doesn't really help in those areas.

If I were Rams personnel, I'd have to strenuously study film to get context on these workouts. But my initial impression would be that develop able talent at WR with real good upside will be available in the second and third rounds, but the talents early at OT, DT etc is real good in comparison to the later.

Streeter has all the tools, but is very raw. He'll likely be "over-drafted" on potential.

Doug Martin is looking like a "riser." He weiged in at 228 lbs and did 28 reps on the bench. If he can crack 4.5 in the 40, I'm going to raise his grade from Round 3 to Round 2.

Streeter is making it very difficult to ignore him. I think if he shows potential with his ball skills, he could be worth drafting, as a big deep threat. I do love a size, speed combination like Streeter's, and feel the Rams will now value the two commodities, with Fisher as coach. I have got a feeling the Rams won't be drafting Blackmon, and will go a different route in April. If Fisher falls in love with a CB or a DT, his drafting history suggests he may favour the position.

The interview will be key for him. Does he know what he's talking about when asked to draw up some plays and discuss them, discuss his responsibilities on a given play, etc?

Yeah, I lot of people have mentioned the importance of the interview at the combine. I think DeSpags were especially big on the interview process. Hence, the main reason the Rams drafted Jason Smith and Austin Pettis. However as yet, their confidence and bravado, hasn't translated to the football field. I just hope the Rams have learned their lesson now.

Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

The official times are in and they're quite a bit slower than some of the timed results we've been seeing live on NFLN.

Michael Floyd went from an unofficial best of 4.42 to an official 4.47.
    Stephen Hill went from a 4.31 to a 4.36.
    Tommy Streeter went from a 4.34 to a 4.40.
    Devier Posey went from a 4.37 to a 4.50.
Dwight Jones had an unofficial 4.46 on his second attempt, official time is 4.55.
Kendall Wright went from an unofficial 4.45 to an official 4.61.

Some prospects weren't as effected, but this may shed some light on why a top prospect like Blackmon - with everything to lose and little to gain as a Top 5-10 pick - would opt to wait until his pro day. I feel bad for Wright; I think he plays a lot faster than that time would lead people to believe.

Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

Of those times, I'd say the most significant are Kendall Wright - who may have just dropped a couple of rounds, and Stephen Hill - who is definitely on the rise (as Nick mentioned, he will get a lot of comparisons to D.Thomas, who came on strong for the Broncos this year).

Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

" Mayock says coaches at the Combine "jumped all over" #UNC WR Dwight Jones in position drills for lack of hustle & not obeying instructions. "

    -Evan Silva

Funny because a few weeks ago he was being talked about as a late 1st and early 2nd round prospect.

I've never liked Kendall Wright. He has always been overrated in my opinion, and his 4.61 really hurt him. I don't think hes a top 5 WR.
