Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
I think that the Cam Newton pick is wishfull thinking, I believe that Jones goes here at 10.

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
I somewhat agree. While it is possible that Shanahan will see in him the ability to raise his game under pressure, it's also possible that he will put faith in his own ability to coach another player to greatness. Also, after having fallen out with McNabb this year and having had to deal with Cutler's ego in Denver at his last previous coaching stop, he may be looking for a quarterback who will behave and do what he is told. If Shanny does take a QB, he might take Locker. Otherwise, Jones looks like the better value.

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
I don't think it's a case of Jones being 'set up' to fall to the Rams. I don't think that is anybody's intention, and the reality is still that if we really want Jones, we're probably going to have to trade up. In this scenario, wherein we're not predicting trades, all it's really going to take is a shake-up somewhere along the line for Jones to fall. For instance, if Bowers were not available for Cleveland, Jones is probably the pick. Ditto for Newton in Washington and probably Tyron Smith for Detroit.

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
The bottom line is that there are scenarios where Jones is available to the Rams, and there are scenarios where he isn't. It's not just optimistic Rams fans who can envision Jones as the pick, either. For instance, Pat Kirwan's latest mock has Jones available at 14 for the Rams.

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
Yeah, I understand that everyone and their mother has a Mock draft whereanything could happen (Heyward-Bey to the Raiders 7th overall in 09) but I justdon't see Jones being available. I really hope it happens because I feel thatit would be the best thing for the Rams to get a potential"big play" WR. I have even heard people on NFL Network saythat Green might be there at the 14th pick because more teams like Jones overGreen. I hope we can get a WR in the first round but I just don't see ithappening. I guess I am just respectfully disagreeing with Jones not going inthe top 10.

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
But to be fair, Dave, Pat Kirwan is not exactly "everyone and their mother". Your point is accurate, and if NFLfan0145 makes a mock, I'm not putting much stock in it. But when Pat Kirwan or Mike Mayock or Charles Davis or Gil Brandt, etc. make a statement it holds a little more value in my opinion.

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
Looks like its a moot point now, as the Vikings have grabbed Jones. A bit of a surprise, but not without a strong basis. After all, Minnesota's top two WRs are a UFA (Rice) and a guy who has chronic migraine issues (Harvin).
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
Well... the Rams have made their choice - ALDON SMITH!
What do you think?
For me, with the players left on board, my top two choices would have been Smith and Ryan Kerrigan. I may have also given some thought as to taking Justin Houston (though there are some character concerns there that would have required some evaluation).
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

I love the Smith pick. He basically fits in perfectly at RE with us. Imagining him and Chris Long in a few years is actually scary. It fills a need (James Hall is ageing) and with a great player at that.

Re: Official ClanRam Scouts Mock Draft Discussion Thread
I'm digging Aldon Smith all over!! Full disclosure time: I had Smith in my RAMarkable's Mock 1.0 about 6 weeks ago, so I'm pretty pleased to see him go to the Rams in our "Official ClanRam Scouts Mock.
Having said that I have also started evaluating Cory Luiget as another possibility should Smith not be there at 14. But as of now I'm sticking with Aldon Smith for all the reasons already mentioned in this thread.
Also, I still think the Rams choose OLB Mason Foster in the second round; although Bruce Carter remains a very intriguing pick for the Rams.
Stay tuned.
WHAT SAY YE?
