Re: The OFFICIAL NFL Draft Discussion Thread
we wanted a wide reciever that could stretch the field thats what he is. He is a saunders type guy.
How in the world does anyone know that we could have gotten him later? That is 100% conjecture.
this is devaneys first draft. Give him the benefit of the doubt. We filled a need. L ets hope avery can play. Until evidence shows that he cant play, i am going to support the pick.

YouTube - Donnie Avery
The WR class was sad, no first round picks. We have Holt at one and Bennett at two. We needed a fast slot guy, here he is and he can return if need be.
Linehan said he will start in the slot, so we will get something from him from day one.

Re: The OFFICIAL NFL Draft Discussion Thread
Bad Pick. He may end up being a good player but to be the 1st WR pick? When this guy is on no ones radar why take him here? Please!

Re: The OFFICIAL NFL Draft Discussion Thread
Frito, how do you know he wasnt on anyone else's radar? There is absolutely no evidence of who was on what teams radar. All anyone has is media speculation based primarily on disinformation put out by the various teams.
There are people on this board that seem to think that all 32 nfl teams get together, get a composite board of player rankings by position, and then share it with the media, leading all fans to conclude who the best guys are and what every team would have done with every pick.

Re: The OFFICIAL NFL Draft Discussion Thread
Uhh, apparently REAL NFL some scouts have no problem with this pick. Some thought he could slip into the 1st round, and could be one of the better WR's to come out of the class. He just flew under the radar. Just because the media's not on his nuts, does not mean this was a bad pick. He's fits exactly what we need in a wide receiver.
Nobody here knows where the ACTUAL NFL teams had him stacked on their draft boards. Stop being haters. Wait to actually see how the pick pans out before you guys start crying. Sheesh!

Re: The OFFICIAL NFL Draft Discussion Thread
We all know that we needed a guy that can and will stretch the field. Well we got him and he can also replace an aging Dante' Hall if not this season probably 2009.

Donnie Avery?
I like Donnie Avery, but in the second round?
With all of the receivers in the draft at their disposal, the front office took Donnie Avery.
Anybody in agreeance with that or was it the second 2nd round blunder in as many years?
I obviously think the latter.

Re: Donnie Avery?
after cooling off at first i was absolutly going berserk. but after doing research he is actually a very good pick, on rotoworld it said some GM's already had him going in the top 40. so it wasnt that big of a reach, he runs a 4.2-3.3 40, thats what we need, just watch you will be happy

Re: Donnie Avery?
There's no doubt he can run and I do like him a lot, I just believe he could've been had in the 3rd. Especially with the way receivers dropped today.

Re: Donnie Avery?
What evidence do you have that we could have had him in the 3rd? There is a huge run on wide receivers in round 2. Are people psychic that they know what receivers other teams would take.
we needed a deep threat and a slot guy. someone that can stretch the field. Its a perfect fit need wise. I for one will defer to saunders and devaney. They are the experts, not us.
There is absolutely no way at all for ANY of us to know what other teams would have done. What i know is that we had our pick of all the wrs and we obviously took the guy at the top of our board for the need we had.

Re: Donnie Avery?
The key to the draft is VALUE!!! The RAMS could have gotten Avery in the 3'rd round, or traded back and stock pile picks like some of the smarter teams in the NFL. But your right, I think they blew it again. With Devin Thomas, and a list of probably 9 other WR's available, the Rams front office selects an under-sized speedster who runs poor routes. As a draft team you have to have a feel for where a player is valued in the draft by other NFL teams, and attempt to get him in that area!!!
