The one guy I DON'T want to see drop to the Rams
Alan Branch.
Maybe he'll be great. Maybe he'll be a Pro Bowl player. But I keep hearing things like "sluggish" and "lazy" and things that make me think... well... to be honest...
Jimmy Kennedy II
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

I agree AV, sounds too much like Kennedy. We have a right to be gun shy. How many DT can we draft and not get a return. We draft an O lineman in the 7th round and he plays well hmmm.

Re: The one guy I DON'T want to see drop to the Rams
Sounds sort of like Barron as well. I know he isnt the same position, but he was a guy who had 'motivation problems' and who subsequently dropped down to us, while a guy who had a good workout at the combine was taken a head of him. Jamaal Brown was the guy taken ahead of Barron, while it looks like Okoye will go ahead of Branch now.

I read somewhere that scouts are expecting to have a Jimmy Kennedy slip in the draft

Re: The one guy I DON'T want to see drop to the Rams
A lot of players have talent, but what seperates the good player from the average player is often desire. Is a guy happy to be an average player or does he want to be an exceptional player. When I hear the term lazy banded about, it strikes me as a player who may have the talent but maybe not the attitude to do the best with his abilities. The Rams can certainly not afford another 1st round pick with those characteristics. We need a guy who is willing to listen, work hard and develop.I think Okoye would answer most of that criteria because he wants to become an outstanding pro player enough.Whether or not we get a shot at him at 13 is another question..:l

Re: The one guy I DON'T want to see drop to the Rams
I think the proiblem with Kennedy was how the coaching staff handled him when he first got here.
I would take Branch if he fell and then get on his ass to make someting happen. Branch is better than Kennedy was when he came out.
My man is still DE Jarvis Moss.

Re: The one guy I DON'T want to see drop to the Rams
In his top 60 ranking in 2003, Scott Wright (one of the most respected in the draft world) has Kennedy ranked 12th overall (right where we took him), and the top DT on the board.Branch is better than Kennedy was when he came out.
There's just no such thing as a sure bet in the draft. If Branch is as lazy as some reports are saying, I don't want nothing to do with him."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: The one guy I DON'T want to see drop to the Rams
In all fairness to Barron, he is a hell of alot better at T then Kennedy is at DT. If Branch is a headcase, then who is the answer? Okoye is a project and not the type of space eating, run stuffing linemen he really need at 302. Maybe if he gains weight. But I think that if Branch falls to us, then Linehan will have to take the chance and bet that the 4th time is a charm for the Rams.

Sometimes, the right answer is "none of the above."
