The one guy I'd trade up (from pick #33 to late first round) to get

DeSean Jackson, WR, California
I think he would be a perfect fit for the Rams offense. We already have Holt, who is great for the 15-25 yard routes, and Bennett, who will hopefully show his abilities as a Red Zone threat. Jackson would give us a guy who can stretch the field with his speed, and can also be a MAJOR threat on short passes (screens, slants) because of his open field running abilities.

If he's still there after the 20th pick, I'd start making calls. Probably would need to package pick #33 with a 4th round pick or a future 2nd or 3rd rounder. I'd roll the dice and do that.

I hope we could do that. I dont think he'll make it near the second round. Like everyone says, we cant make this team a play off team next year, so just build this year and next.

Couldn't agree more great thought. How bout pick 33, future second, and a conditional 4th for pick 27 if he last that long

adding him to our team would be great. what are the chances he will slip where we can make a move to draft him?

Re: The one guy I'd trade up (from pick #33 to late first round) to get

According to Jim Thomas' chat from today, the Rams seem to love him. I don't expect him to be available in the second round, so yeah we'd probably have to trade up to get him. Depending on the cost, it might be a pretty solid move.

Re: The one guy I'd trade up (from pick #33 to late first round) to get

NO WAY!!!
The Rams have 9 WRs on the roster as of yesterday!
Derek Stanley who runs a 4.37 40 needs to be given a chance!!
We need speed rush DEs and CBs.

Maybe thats why Bruce was let go!
Do you know for a fact!! That it's not going to happen or is this just your opinion!!

Or is it nobody is dumb enough to make that trade ? Not going to happen...

Or is it the O line can't block long enough to throw a deep pass ? Not going to happen...

Or is it Bulger can't throw a good deep ball even he has enough time to throw one ? Not going to happen...

Re: The one guy I'd trade up (from pick #33 to late first round) to get

Stanley was what a sixth round pick? Seventh maybe? He'll get his chance, but in the meantime we need to hedge our bets. If Stanley was really that close to making an impact, he would have had a much bigger year in 2007. If--and it's a big if--but if Stanley turned into a big-time playmaker, we still have a need for a receiver with concerns about Holt's knee and age. And Bennett is not much more of a sure thing.

I'm all in favor of going for whichever receiver we like best in this draft. I'd be fine with giving up say a fourth to move up into the first, but I'd be less thrilled about giving up a future second or third.

Re: The one guy I'd trade up (from pick #33 to late first round) to get

As I have said before Derek Stanley was a 7th round pick out of a DIV. III college just because he runs a 4.37 doesn't make him an NFL receiver. If he was any good at all he would have been playing by now...

I wouldnt mind this Avenger but now with this Fahkir Brown thing looming if we dont land Lito Sheppard before the draft and Cromartie is still there after the 20th pick I'd rather trade up for him.

Quantity does not necessarily equal quantity.

Holt: Still among the best but turns 32 this summer and seemingly has chronic knee issues
Bennett: Disappointing first year under contract, question mark for the future
Hall: Return specialist only, IMO
Caldwell: Might not even make it out of the preseason
Looker: Has a history with Linehan but is more of a holder than he is a receiver nowadays
Hagans: According to one report, he's not making the transition to pro WR
Stanley: Question mark - has good measurables but only played in three games despite some WR injuries ahead of him that should have allowed him to get on the field more
Williams: Signed last season I believe to help with return duties, don't expect him to contribute much
Fowler: The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference? Really?

Just because you have bodies doesn't mean you're good at a spot. The Rams have bodies at WR, but for the first time in a long time, I think overall it's an average at best group. Fans constantly overestimate or overrate present personnel and depth; this seems like another one of those instances.

Exactly. If we draft a receiver but Stanley turns into a playmaker, then good for us - we'd then have two young receivers to groom for the future. Not exactly a horrible situation to be in.

I have no idea whether the Rams would do what I'm suggesting, but if they don't, I'm pretty confident that it won't be because of Stanley.
