Ourlads Mock Draft (one of the oldest & best)

Ourlads' 2006 NFL Mock Draft Updated: 3/27/2006

Here's a look at the latest projection in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft based upon our grades.

*An asterisk in front of the name designates an underclassman.

    Notes Regarding Vince Young:
Al Davis is enamored with Young's speed and athletic ability. The fact is, Vince Young is a development NFL quarterback prospect that rates as a second or third round selection. A rare athlete that makes plays with his legs. In the NFL you make plays as a QB with your arm. Young hasn't demonstrated that he can read complex defenses or complete a pass through a small window of opportunity. Will a team invest an early pick and millions of dollars in a developmental quarterback that may not be ready until he is eligible for free agency? A top five athlete should not be confused with a top five position player. If the Raiders don't take him, he may fall to Arizona or Baltimore.

Re: Ourlads Mock Draft (one of the oldest & best)

Thanks for posting Ourlad's Mock. We've heard that Bunkley isn't the Run Plugger Noseguard type that the Rams play NEXT to Glover. I've read that several places.

They may be on to one thing, it's possible Hawk could go earlier than the other projections. Some Draft expert on ESPN radio (may have been Kiper) said that GMs told him during Senior Week (Senior Bowl) that Bush and Hawk really stand out in this draft. Then two days later I heard Denny Green on ESPN saying that players like Hawk don't come around that often.

So, I wouldn't be shocked to see Hawk go in the top 5.

As far as SanFran taking Huff. I don't agree. I read several comments from their HC (Nolan) saying that Huff as a safety is not as valued as a shutdown Corner. When asked about Huff going very early in the draft, Nolan said "I not buying it". Then again, he could be trying to discourage other teams from taking his prospect. He also said you don't take a Huff and move him to corner. I don't think there's going to be anyone taking him in the Top-10 and then trying to convert him. Any conversion adds risk and no one wants to take that chance with their
early picks, or lose production years in the process of conversion.

    Ourlads Mock Draft

Saprano, I agree that drafting a player in the Top 10 then trying to change his position is not the best way to go. However, more often than not coach's and team Front Office people don't show there cards before a draft and in fact they tend to blow smoke to throw people off.
If I were the ***** coach (something I would never want to be) I would have no problem throwing those kinds of remarks out to get people thinking I'm negative about Huff or to keep someone from trading infront of me to select him because they think I'll take him.

No Vince Young in the first round? That would detremental to everyone in the NFL that didn't take him.

All the guy has ever done is win and he has major talent. If this draft comes to be true, I hope the Rams are the one who takes VY because VY wins.

Re: Ourlads Mock Draft (one of the oldest & best)

No way he makes it out of the round. They're blowing smoke with that developmental rhetoric. Alex Smith played out of shotgun and spread formations, too. That didn't stop him from going first overall. Michael Vick wasn't a traditional passer and he went first overall, too. So don't tell me developmental players can't go early.

Besides, he looked pretty sharp in his passing drills at the Pro Day. The Wonderlic thing might have hurt him, but he's a gamebreaker. If Matt Jones goes in the first round when you don't even know what position he's going to play, there is no question Vince Young does, too. I think the bigger question than whether he will get past the Raiders is whether he will even get to the Raiders.

Ourlads is very very down on Young, especially after the whole Wonderlic deal. I don't think he falls out of the first round either, but as a group, they don't seem to think too highly of him and haven't for a while.
