    'Outside the 5' scenario

Let's say we trade down to the Falcons for the #6. And because of other teams moving around in the top 5, we are left at the #6 spot with Watkins, Clowney, Mack, Matthews, and Robinson all off the board. No QBs selected in the top 5.

No trade partners. We have to make a pick at #6.

    Who are you taking?

    Re: 'Outside the 5' scenario

I think in that case I'd settle our two biggest areas of need:

6: Justin Gilbert at CB. Yes, that's high, but we are assuming a pretty unusual scenario, and I think he's the best value on the board there.

13: Clinton Dix at S. Our DBs with our current young playmakers are now set for the next decade.

37: Atlanta's pick - Cyrus Kouandijo at OT.

    45. Gabe Jackson at OG.

Our Oline gets depth, a probable new starter at OG, and a guy that could push to start at RT and help the running game.

Our secondary is loaded with playmakers, big hitters and cover guys.

Our WR corps could still use some help, but if Britt shows something or one of the talented young guys breaks out we are good.

Probably take a rider on a OLB to push Dunbar and a RB to add to the stable.

My first instinct would be to go with Mike Evans, but Justin Gilbert is a close second.

Probably trade with any of the remaining teams in the top 10 to add picks and still get one of the players we want, such as Evans, Gilbert or Lewan.

    Go Rams!

    Try again, Captain Kirk.

Oops, keep reading Scotty. Then we take one of the players I mentioned earlier.

    Re: 'Outside the 5' scenario

So with a few responses in, it looks like Evans, Lewan, or Gilbert might be the answer. Maybe there's someone not yet mentioned (Barr, HCD, Moseley, Donald, etc.), but ultimately, it makes me think that this scenario would really cause quite the disadvantage to the Rams. It just seems to me, in my less than qualified opinion, that there is a noticeable divide between those 1st five and the next level. Those are all good prospects, but are they at the same level as the top 5 prospects?

I don't think a trade happens until the Texans come off the clock, but once they do, the easy answer trade partner is the Falcons. Now, maybe they only pull the trigger on a trade if the Texans pass on Clowney, but if they're still interested in the trade even w/o Clowney on the board, I'm not sure I pull the trigger.

There's still multiple landing spots for a QB in #3-#5, but I'm not so sure I'd want to risk missing on one of the top 5 by falling to #6 IF a QB is not the 1st pick.

Mike Evans and hope for Justin Gilbert or Lewan at 13.

    Re: 'Outside the 5' scenario

I probably reach and take Aaron Donald. I am not sure we draft a WR this year, unless the unthinkable happens and Watkins falls to #13. I do not like Lewan he's stiff and doesn't move well I think he's going to end up getting eaten alive if we have to start him at all his rookie year. Possibly one of the CB but it's not an area of huge need. I'd grab Donald and put him next to Brockers and make Langford a rotational guy.

My first instinct would be to grab Gilbert actually. Not a fan of Evans, he seems like a possession type receiver, probably not worth a 6th overall pick. Frankly if the top guys are all off the board, I'm not sure who really fits the bill as a 6th overall pick. The class is deep, but past the top guys, it's hard to separate, from what I've read.

Well, if it were up to "me" ... Mike Evans. I think the Rams will make it work / make him work!

Man that would really suck. Would have to go Evans but not happy about it.
