Pace for Peppers?
Carolina may never do this deal. But player wise I think its about equal value. Peppers just turned 28 years old and Pace just turned 33 years old. Peppers had a bad season last year and missed the last two games due to injury and we all know Pace has been watching more then playing the last two years. This would give the Rams a good DL with Little, Peppers, Carriker, and Ryan. Then we could draft Jake Long to be our LT or RT and move Barron to LT. That would give us two potential tackles for years to come which are hard to come by. We would be getting younger at LT and have a veteran DE that will only be 30 when Littles contract expires in two years. That would solidfy our DL and give us time to find a backup DE who could replace Little in two years.
Our Lines would look like this:
OL:
LT Long
G Incognito
C Romberg (resign) / Free Agent
G Setterstrom / Free Agent
RT Barron
DL:
DE Peppers
DT Carriker
DT Ryan
DE LittleLast edited by RamsSB99; -03-01-2008 at 03:16 PM.

Re: Pace for Peppers?
I know when Pace is healthy, he is the heart and soul of the OL. I cant trust Barron yet, and we dont know how well Jake Long can perform in the NFL. It all comes down to trust here. And I dont trust the two young kids...yet.

Re: Pace for Peppers?
Would I, yes, for the simple fact that 28 is better than 33.
The problem is that Pace is our best lineman, and while we've dealt without him the last two years, our line won't be great without him. Now, we would have the chance to get a new franchise tackle in the draft, but it takes time to become accustomed to the play in the NFL.

Re: Pace for Peppers?
Why? Pace is 33 and is coming off 2 big time injuries so he won't be as quick or fast as he has been in the past. They run a zone blocking scheme and who knows is Pace can translate into that system in this stage of his career. Peppers is an elite DE in this league and is only 28. They are also trying to lock up Jordan Gross and just locked up Travelle Wharton. Adding Pace would add even more big money than they would want to spend on the line. It would be dumb for us because Jake Long has never played a game in this league and to automatically plug him in at LT which is one of the hardest positions to learn is verry risky.

Re: Pace for Peppers?
Are you saying it would be more risky then playing without Pace like we have for the last two years?
This sounds risky to me as well.

It was a hypothetical question as almost any trade scenario proposed on any forum is. Its meant to just gauge the fans value of our players vs. some one of equal talent.

Re: Pace for Peppers?
Gutting the line for Julius Peppers just isn't worth it. I just cannot see Jake Long replacing Pace immediately, and Peppers is going to demand a lot of money to stay with the Rams after this season.
The Rams can get an even younger, yet more long term situation to the defensive line problem in the draft.
