The Patriots have the #7 draft pick?
I was just looking up some information on the draft and it says that the Patriots have the #7 pick. How can that be? I thought they lost a draft pick and shouldn't they be at the end since they went all the way to the SuperBowl????
Please help me understand this.
Re: The Patriots have the #7 draft pick?
They have San Francisco's 1st round draft pick. Their actual 32nd overall pick got stripped but not this one because it was originally San Francisco's'.
Re: The Patriots have the #7 draft pick?
So they traded something for this pick? What did they give to the niners? It hardly seems fair to see them up there with the #7 pick.

Not sue but I think it was comp from last year.

What's "fair" got to do with it? The whiners wanted to select Joe Staley OT in last year's draft when he was still available at the Patriot's pick at #28 overall in the 1st round. The whiners traded their 4th pick in the 2007 draft, and their 1st pick overall in 2008 for the opportunity to grab Joe. The whiners stunk last year so the Pats lucked out with a high (7th) pick in round one.
Not to worry though as the Pats have to play us this year, and what goes around -- comes around .. Since all our players will be learning martial arts this year, we will surely be able to at least maim a significant number of their players while we cruise to convincing win ...

Maybe "fair" has nothing to do with it. Was Joe Staley worth it to the niners? Was this a good trade for them?

*****: No regrets on Pats trade

INDIANAPOLIS -- No regrets.
Those are the thoughts of San Francisco ***** general manager Scot McCloughan when reflecting on a 2007 draft-day trade he swung with the Patriots. In the deal, the ***** shipped a 2008 first-round pick and 2007 fourth-round selection to pick offensive tackle Joe Staley (28th overall).
Speaking at a press conference here at the combine, McCloughan was asked if he would make the trade again, knowing now that the ***** would have the seventh overall selection in the 2008 draft.
“I think Joe Staley will prove out to be a top-10 type caliber pick at a position that is very hard to find,” McCloughan said. “It’s not only from a standpoint of athleticism and his football potential, he’s also a great guy, one of those guys you can build your offensive line around. I’d make the trade in a heartbeat again -- to get an offensive lineman, an offensive tackle, one year before.”

Re: The Patriots have the #7 draft pick?
The trade was the Patriots 1st round pick last year for the ***** first round pick this year and a 4th round pick that eventually turned into Randy Moss.
So ultimately the Pats got the 1,7 this year and Randy Moss for the 1,28 last year...
WOW
Re: The Patriots have the #7 draft pick?
THOLT, that's exactly why our second pick excites me as I'm hoping we can auction it off to a QB needy team for lower in the second round and either a 3rd or 4th rounder this year or maybe a 2nd or 3rd next year.
