Re: Per Bernie: Faneca, Stallworth

Clayton reported today that Faneca is looking for and will get 8 million a year, I can't see our FO paying that. As far as Stallworth I feel he is one of the most overrated WR's in the league. Even with Moss being double and triple teamed he still found a way to disappear, I'd rather have Bruce.

Re: Per Bernie: Faneca, Stallworth

So we cut the heart and soul of this franchise so we can go attempt to overpay for Faneca? About half the league wants Faneca - whoever gets him is going to pay an arm and a leg.

Re: Per Bernie: Faneca, Stallworth

Faneca is too expensive. I'd like to have him but not at 8 million a year, with our cap situation we should not be looking at adding another huge paycheck in the form of a top FA. Resign Bruce and work on contracts with our other good players instead (Jackson, Atogwe etc.).

Replacing Bruce with Stallworth would be ridiculous. Stallworth isn't even a better receiver than Bruce, probably wouldn't be a lot cheaper and doesn't have the history with the team that Bruce does. I see no advantages to having Stallworth other than maybe saving half a million or a million in cap space which is inconsequential.

Stallworth would give this team something in the receiving corps that Bruce did not - a deep threat capable of stretching the field with speed. I'm not saying I'd prefer him as a starter over Bruce - personally I'm not a huge Stallworth fan - but there are definite advantages to what he could bring to the offense. If Saunders is looking for speed in his scheme, Stallworth certainly provides that more than Bruce does.

Re: Per Bernie: Faneca, Stallworth

if the rams were to pick up Donte stallworth and lets say casey wiegmann in free agency to go along with a trade for kris jenkins i would be happy with our free agency.... trading my favorite player ever would not hurt as bad

Re: Per Bernie: Faneca, Stallworth

Call me crazy, and I have no evidence to back this up but I think Stanley could bring as much to the table as Stallworth and maybe more. Stallworth doesn't impress me at all and obviously doesn't impress other teams either as he is getting ready to join his 4th team in 6 years. He's also been in the league's substance abuse program and that is another headache we don't need. If we sign him for what it would have taken to keep Bruce I may actually vomit.

And I think a speed WR has been a feature of the Saunders offence, in recent years. In the GSOT years, he had Bruce in his prime and Holt, in KC, he had guys like Parker and Kennison, and in Washington, he had Santana Moss. All of those guys has some speed to them.

Re: Per Bernie: Faneca, Stallworth

Apparently we are really going to take a run at Faneca.

Quote:
It’s a three-team race for Pittsburgh guard Alan Faneca.

FOXSports.com has learned that Faneca is receiving strong interest from San Francisco, St. Louis and the New York Jets. Faneca doesn’t plan on making any free-agent visits while mulling impending contract offers but hopes to make a decision between those squads within the next 48 hours.

All three suitors are desperate for offensive line help.

Considered the NFL’s top free-agent offensive lineman, Faneca has gotten named to seven consecutive Pro Bowls. But because of his age (31) and the high salary he is commanding, Faneca will not be re-signed by the Steelers.

Chris Kemoeatu is expected to replace Faneca as Pittsburgh’s starting left guard provided he is re-signed as a restricted free agent.
I'd take Jacob Bell over him. We better not waste money on him because he isn't the guard Steve Hutchinson is and hes going to want much more than he got. Bell is younger, and we would be able to get other effective FAs if we get the cheaper option.

Re: Per Bernie: Faneca, Stallworth

So just like last year we are gonna blow our wad on one guy (i.e. Bennett) and then quietly wait for the draft. I agree I'd rather have Bell just because we could do some other damage in free agency. If we land Faneca it's one and done.

Some more Bernie on Faneca (credit to RamBill for finding this):

Couple a days late on that one, my friend.

Been saying since Tuesday that they'll be aggressive in pursuing him.

I find it interesting that Faneca is not going to visit any of his prospective teams. Sounds like it's all about the money.
